My wife is Italian. In fact, that's not entirely true. She's American but she can trace 100% of her ancestry to Italy. Both of her grandfathers were from Italy and both grandmothers were first or second generation Italian-Americans. On the other hand, I am the classic American mutt, a mix of who knows what. I have no idea when my ancestors went to the new world and only a vague sense of where they were from. Until this week, that is. This week the secret was finally revealed to me and the answer was entirely unexpected. You see, it turns out that I am Portuguese. At no time has anyone in my family even mentioned a hint of this but I now have irrefutable proof. Here's my birth certificate:

On Wednesday, I received a previously-loved 5001-09 that I purchased from a very nice seller in the US. I am in love with this thing. It instantly vaulted to the top of the heap to become my favorite watch. It is in excellent condition at almost two years old. It needs a new strap (my search for a Santoni continues) but is otherwise fantastic. I couldn't be happier. Many thanks to Kevin for making me realize that I should get the watch I really wanted even if it meant exploring the used market -- he was absolutely right. And thanks to Shing for giving me tips on where to look for used watches.
A few more photos from my balcony this afternoon.

I'll bore all of you with more photos another time. :)
