    Hi,

I am interested in the above watch but my AD does not have it in stock. Does anyone own this? If you do, can you please post pics of this watch? I would like to see pics of the watch and how it looks like on the wrist.

I don't own an IWC yet. I puchased a 371417 for my husband earlier this year. I have a very tiny wrist and would like to learn more about the 356405.

Any additional information on this watch would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Juliana

    Hi Juliana,

The model has been discontinued bij IWC. Maybe an AD still has it in stock. Call around or try to find one on the net.

    Here's some info: www.weeber.biz/IWC/Workbook/2007/3564.pdf

There not many (none?) 3564's on this forum. I have the silver 3563. Some shots:

    Hi Bas,

Thank you very much for your feedback and pics of your 3565, it's a very good looking watch. I didn't know that the 356405 has been discontinued. Have you ever seen the 356405 in real life? I have not and I am curious to know how the blue looks like in person.

    Thanks,
    Juliana

If I remember well, the blue one was a white gold watch only to be had in the boutiques. I also seem to remember that Tonny Berteloot bought such a watch about a year ago, so you maybe ask him. If that about the boutiques is true, then it is relatively easy for you, there aren't that many to call. Good luck!

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Thanks Paul. The one I am interested in is SS and not gold. I will try to ask Tonny if hs can provide me with more information on his.

I was told by my AD that this model has been discontinued and that my AD is trying to find out if they can get one in from the head office to me to view.

Anyone else who owns this model or a 34mm? If you do, please post a picture.

    Thanks,
    Juliana

    Juliana,

I have never seen it in person.

    Paul,

The 356405 was a regular model. It is in the 2008 calalog,

    Hi Bas,

Thank you for the update, which proves again that good documentation is everything. I remember that blue one vividly, from the pictures: quite a strong presence.

Looking at the new catalogue, my eye fell on the "last page" (231), where the black 356305 looks really great. Being still not too big by IWC standards, it may be an interesting watch for those looking for such a sized watch, keeping in mind that the new Portofino's may be a bit bigger.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Does anyone has any additional information on the 2011 Portofinos? Will it be made in the mid size 34mm?

I really like the 356405 but my AD has not gotten back to me about this. I am curious to know if the new Portofinos will be made in 34mm. If the answer is yes, I would wait so I can see the new collection.

I guess how the new Portofino's will look like will be a well guarded secret until about January 2011. Even about the size no messages will be presented now.

However, the midsize watches IWC presented a few years ago were commercially not very successful, so they were discontinued after one or two years. Also, their modification to look like watches for women were unsuccessful: in my opinion they looked like hybrides, no flesh no fish.

So, I think it very unlikely that the new Portofino's will have a midsize variation. I guess you either have to try and find an unsold midsize, settle for the regular version sold now, or, well, look around to some other brand.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Hi Juliana,

I think the best is to wait for the new collection. The 34 mm will always be somewhere... but I think the new collection Portofino will be major!

Maybe the midsize will grow for a mm or so.... but be patience... and we'll see the results here on the forum in Januari I guess.

PS great you like the Portofino line. I'm also a hudge fan!

    Hi Paul and Martijn,

Thank you both for the information. I am quite set on the 356405 but I would like to see it in person first. I called all the 5 ADs in my country but they are all sold out. I will be visiting 3 Asian countries in a few months so I will try to call all of the ADs before I go and see if anyone has this watch in stock.

I went to an AD yestreday and they have one 34mm left. The model is 3533XXXXX I think? It's the 34mm with blue strap, gold hands and the dial is not white or silver, it looks more like silver with a tinge of gold in it. Is anyone familiar with this model? I can't find this model from my 2007 catalogue or on this site.I like the strap but I was not 100 sold on the dial and hands. That AD also mentioned IWC has discontinued the 34mm.

Martijn - I like the 34mm Portofinos because this is the ONLY IWC line that will fit me and it's so simple and elegant. (I am not crazy about the Da Vinci.) I have extrememly small wrists, I can't wear anything bigger than 34mm. When I tried on the 34mm yesterday, I had to wear it on the last hole and the watch was still a bit loose on my wrist. I love so many IWC watches but only the Portofino 34mm or a few Da Vincis will fit me. The good thing is that I can always get another IWC for my husband down the road.

Wish my luck guys while I try to hunt down the 356405 or maybe settle for another 34mm.

    Hi Juliana,

Good luck indeed. I find it always amazing that a model, while being in production, may not be successful, but when discontinued, becomes somthing to have. But then, the stock of 34 mm watches was maybe not so big to start with, and they sell out eventually in a few years time.

Because of your posts I looked around in Zermatt, and didn't find any 34 mm Portofino's. But I gave the regular ones a good look (shame on me, most of the time other ones interest me more). I must say, the Portofino's grew on me, you get a lot of watch for the Swiss Frank, and quite a beautiful one too. The golden one with the white/silver dial, and the steel one with the black dial were my favourites. My wife liked them too, she has your problem: wrists like pencils. So, no IWC for her, she settled for a beautiful watch, not too big nor too small of another famous brand. If you look at another public forum, you can find out which, as I wrote about it about two weeks ago.

I saw the small Da Vinci too, in different versions. Yes, you have to like them of course. I know of two other 34 mm IWC's: the Ingenieur and the Mark XVI. I guess both are gone, but who knows. The Mark XVI would be a killer.

    Again, good luck hunting!

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Haha, I can't believe you actually looked around Zermatt for the 34mm. Thank you for thinking of me and thanks for the information on the Ingenieur and the Mark XVI. I am new to IWC so I didn't know that the Ingenieur and the Mark XVI came in 34mms. The Mark XVI is very nice indeed!

I guess the hunt is on for me, let's see what my AD says on the 356405. If all fails, I am hoping that when I visit Asia in a few months, I will be able to bring home a 34mm. There are a total of close to 30 IWC ADs or stores within the three countries that I will be visiting. I hope I will be able to find one!
