The cal. 30110 needs 650 turns per day in both directions on a winder.
Greetings!
I fully agreee, in general, to all the above comments. The Mark VI is a masterpiece.
My "Classic" Mark VI looses one second per day, consistently. IWC service guarantees NO IWC watch can loose time!
However...
...I will not try to adjust my IWC, because it could end up gaining more than +1" each day.
I also don't dare to use my IWC swimming in sea surface, although the 6 BAR water resistance - AND the screwing crown - would allow it, in principle.
I would be most gratefull for your comments and advise.
Please accept, dear friends, my most warm greetings from Portugal!
Armando
I am currently thinking to purchase this Mark XVI.
I want to make myself a present for my first year of work, so i want something that lasts and even when I will be old will remind me of this first milestone in my professional career.
I was focused on a Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch (classic one or the Apollo XV edition), then I had a look also at IWC, which i thought were starting from a higher price than the Omega range.
Result is that i fell in love with this Mark XVI.
If I have to be honest i fist fell in love with a Doppelchronograph Rattrapante, which is now out of market, but the store still has...what to say...love at first sight, but of course totally another price range:)
So I was driven to the Mark XVI, classy watch, wonderful style, simple in its own design...A must for me at the moment.
Let's say that i am currently evaluating the two possibility:
- Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch
- IWC Mark XVI
I have never been for watch without metal bracelet, but this one i want for sure with leather, which i really prefer in brown rather than black, but i suppose that the model comes out just in black, so it would be then up to me to buy also the brown bracelet (i say that because the Doppelchronograph i saw was with black quadrant and brown leather's strap).
I am currently more interested in the IWC because I own a Submariner and Datejust so I have a style of watch that is "similar" as a genre (i know are very different) to the Omega, whilst I dont have anything classic, less sporty like this Mark XVI...
Anyway, i hope to have a brilliant professional future that will enable me to afford both in the end :D
Hi, just to add to Andy's and Mark's posts above, I've had my Mark XVI for 5 years now, with absolutely no problems. Originally bought it on leather but added the bracelet later (ouch!). It runs +3s/ day but by placing crown right overnight it can be made to run exactly to time. And it looks great with the brown leather strap with cream stitching from the spitfire.
Best, J.
Actually, I've been meaning to share this image with you guys for a while, and happily, you've given me the opportunity to do so.
All best, J.

With the brown leather belt is gorgeous!!!!!
This is how i was imaging it when i first proposed this configuration on my previous post!!!
Excellent choice!!!!! Jatgill
Welcome to the forum and congrats. on an excellent choice for your first IWC. My MK XVI is on a the steel bracelet and comfortable in all kinds of weather. You wiii find it to be an excellent time keeper, wear it in good fortune and good health!

what do you mean by placing crown "right" overnight? what is the "right" way to place the crown?
i initially wanted the XVI but after owning the Portuguese Chrono the additional 2mm diameter of the XVII will provide the better fit for my wrist.
Thanks for the wishes!!!!
If everything goes well (i.e. the store is able to receive the Mark XVI in store for this saturday) I should be a proud owner this Saturday....and i really don't want to wait any longer to wear it and possess it!!!
Congratulations on your new purchase, Alberto. I hope it gives you great pleasure for many years.
Drew, you might be aware that most watches gain or lose a few seconds depending on how they are placed overnight. "crown right" means to place the watch face vertically, so that it is standing up, like a clock. So you have to hang the watch from something, or prop it up against an object on your night stand. Sorry for the ambiguity in my previous statement. Please note though that each watch is slightly different and you will have to experiment with the different positions to achieve the desired effect on timekeeping.
Best, J.
In the end i could not find the MArk XVI as it was not available anymore, since has been replaced by the Mark XVII. Instead i bought the Aviator Chronograph (the ones presented with the Mark XVI, not the new one).
THe shop was able to find this one and i have to admit i love it, even more than the Mark XVI, is a little bit bigger, but wonderful, and having the chrono is useful...I just had to put some additional money effort :p but it worth it all, especially considering that now is not produced anymore and substituted by the new model (which i dont like as much as this one) so really happy.....
In the next days i will purchase also the brown leather strap, as i love it in brown...
Albertoc:
Have your AD/Boutique show you the St.Exupery Brown strap (ref.21700) on your new 3717 for consideration. Since you enjoy black dial/brown strap combinations, the above pairing is a fantastic look. I think you will be WOWED!!
Nice pick-up on (IMO) the best classic Pilot Chrono ever....

Meine Mark 16 ist mittlerweile etwas über 1 Jahr alt und sie geht nach wie vor sehr genau. Mitte Januar werde ich dazu das passende IWC Metallband bekommen. Ich bin schon mal gespannt!
My IWC Mark XVI 3706629- now with the steel bracelet- i am VERY HAPPY with this new combination- although the steel bracelet is very expensive.
Dear forum members I bought my first Mark XVI 2,5 years ago. No problem at all.
I went on a holiday for 1 month, returned, picked up my Mark and started wearing it. I waited for about 3 hours before I adjusted the date and time (not between 21:00/03:00) and from that moment my Mark gained 10 seconds per minute. It was swiping to fast. Unfortunately 4 months after my warranty period, awaiting repairs as we speak.
Did anybody else experience this? Thinking about buying a winder, but a watch with such prestige shouldn't need one in my opinion.
Regards,
Nick.
