Bought this 666 (cal.852) from an Australian seller around 7 years ago. Didn't like it too much because I thought it had a newer dial and a newer crown (opinions appreciated). Thought of getting rid of it but then noticed the inscription on the back. The first name, middle initial, last name of the owner were printed, as well as the full address - number, road name, Hamilton, New Zealand. Also printed were the first and middle names of his wife who apparently bought the watch as a gift to him in 1959. Don't know if I ought to show a pic of the inscription here as it contains privacy info. (Any opinions?) The inscription could have been added by someone else at a later date but at least it looks to have been done professionally to my untrained eyes.
Anyway, lets call the owner G. and his wife D.. Made a search on the net, and found a record in Auckland war memorial museum that matches the owner. This G. passed away in 2013 in his late nineties. His last rank was Flight Lieutenant in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Participated in WWII so I suppose G. must have been in his mid to late 20s then. More significantly, it also listed that G. was husband of D. (deceased); father of M., and S.
Have decided to keep the watch for a longer while.
