Cost and Gain: Time and dedication, ......
I really enjoyed the forum and the cameradesque atmosphere, and of course it cost me time to follow it, but it's really a time invested appreciating beauty, craftmanship and fellowship. The real cost (but it it really a cost) was my CFI # 11, but for sure I would have invested into my IWC toys anyway.
But look at what I gained in the past years: a whole bunch af friends!!
Thank you IWC
Ciao form Vicenza
Alex
It's here: our 7th Anniversary Drawing!
it will be exactly 777 days till I purchase my first IWC, the portugese automatic 500109, unless of course I get the Forum's watch in 2010. I have given myself a goal to save the $$$ to buy this beautiful watch. This forum has been great resource of information with a wealth of knowledge. Thanks to all for their wonderful insight and I hope to share the passion of many on this forum.
No Price is Too High !
If it was not for THIS FORUM, I would still have only one IWC. This forum fueled my interest in the brand - and I have bought 10 more IWCs in the last 7 years.
I have spent many HOURS reading and collaborating with my like-minded friends here. I bet it adds up to 5,000 hours of time reading posts, making posts, taking watch photos, movies, etc. Then there's hundreds of hours visiting ADs, Boutiques, Museums, etc. All this time could add up to over $1,000,000 USD in "opportunity costs".
It has been a great pleasure to attend events, and meet so many of you passionate collectors. No price too high to pay for that.

Great Show Mr. Sheridan...Very Nice Indeed. (nt)
Nice show.
Wonderful
7 watches
It is really true if I count watches and only include the watches which are mechanical than I own 7 watches. 3 IWC's which are most dearest and get the most wristtime. Almost 7 days a week.
The most frequent wrist stayer is my one with the 7 days power reserve. It's the BigPilot tested and proved to serve well at the altitude of 7 miles high. Not a member of the club though, but still trying to become one....
Best regards,
René Schipper

Great images!
Happy 7th Anniversary
As a new collector I cannot claim to have have spent a fortune (yet).
But thanks to the forum and the invaluable postings found here I have been seriously infected by the IWC virus.
My budget was far exceeded this year between my Port automatic & Pilot Laureus, but what a pleasure it has been wearing these pieces!
I read the forum postings daily and look forward to many more years to come.
Happy 7th Forum!
Evan
Many multiples of 7....
In fact, in almost every way, many times over 7. Over 7 new watches, over 7 old watches, checked this forum 7XXX... many multiples of times.
Over (MANY times over) seven new friends.
Over 7 trips or events just for IWC watches. And well over 7 trips to my bank... ;^(
Over, over, and over.
Like a good investment, things seem to multiply because of this forum!
To this forum and all who make it possible- happy 7th birthday! Thank you Michael, and to all my wonderful friends I've met because of this forum!
During the last 7 years....
.....I gained 7 kg's of weight.... Not because of the increment of time-hardware (wish that was true in a way), but because of stopping with smoking, and therefore eating and drinking just a slightly tiny little bit more... So, in the perspective of costs....: I surely might have spent some 7 (?) thousands of euro's on additional wine and food. Could have spent that money on another IWC as well. Or can still...
Gains not cost!
Happy anniversary!
This forum gave me only gains up to now. I don't consider money or time reading and writing in the forum as a cost! I rather think that this forum gave me momentum to acquire some of the most exciting timepieces that will live well beyond me :) And even if I don't ever have children, I am sure that my successor, whoever he is, will have a touch of my memory on his wrist! Maybe collecting IWCs is trying to collect the flying time too. That's why IWC might allows us to "live" a bit longer that we think. And all that due to the existence of this Forum!
Cheers

Nice story! Thanks for sharing again (nt)
What the Forum has cost me..
It made me change the initial policy of buying one watch for each brand I liked. It made me decide to focus on IWC watches. Actually, this forum is the main reason for concentrating on IWC. To be honest: I would have focused on Lange otherwise.
It made me give up privacy. I never participated actively on fora. When I discovered the IWC forum I looked at some other watch fora but quickly decided to focus on this forum only. I like the content-focus, the positivism, and the community.
It made me change priorities: writing interviews instead of work, talking about watches, etc. In essence, a lot of time. All up to the point that my wife got tired of it!
But it was worth it! This is a great place to be and I sincerely hope we are able to communicate, learn, share our passion for many years as non-celebrity IWC-ambassadors!
Please allow me to express my respect, gratitude, and admiration for the way Michael keeps the Forum interesting and exciting. Otherwise I would have left a long time ago.
Michael, IWC and fellow collectors: Happy Anniversary!
Regards, Peter
A bunch of new (larger!) Cuffs.....
but worth every penny. I wouldn't give up my IWCs.
Cheers!

It's here: our 7th Anniversary Drawing!
Cost 0, gain two IWC's and the desire for at least 7 times more IWC's
Not 7, but 13
1) While congratulation are in order all around for 7 years of this ground-breaking forum, 7 is not my lucky number.
2) 2)Since I can remember, 13 has been my lucky number. So I’m writing this on Friday the 13th, which has always been my lucky day.
3) We were notified on Friday, April 13 1983 that my wife was pregnant with our first child. Coincidentally, he was born on Friday, January 13, 1984.
4) I am also the proud owner of CFI #13 (I chose that number, which I think gave much relief to Jaqueline, Veronica and MF, since they thought no one would want that number.
5) I also chose #13 for my Carlson Ceramic Dopple.
6) I wish I could tell you that I have 13 IWC watches as that would add the symmetrical ending I was hoping for, but truly, my collection contains only 9 IWC timepieces.
7) However, if you combine that with my attendance at 2 IWC Collector’s meetings and 2 Factory Tours, then I have my “lucky 13.”
All my best,
Larry
