Not 7, but 13

1) While congratulation are in order all around for 7 years of this ground-breaking forum, 7 is not my lucky number.
2) 2)Since I can remember, 13 has been my lucky number. So I’m writing this on Friday the 13th, which has always been my lucky day.

3) We were notified on Friday, April 13 1983 that my wife was pregnant with our first child.  Coincidentally, he was born on Friday, January 13, 1984.

4) I am also the proud owner of  CFI #13 (I chose that number, which I think gave much relief to Jaqueline, Veronica and MF, since they thought no one would want that number.

5) I also chose #13 for my Carlson Ceramic Dopple.

6) I wish I could tell you that I have 13 IWC watches as that would add the symmetrical ending I was hoping for, but truly, my collection contains only 9 IWC timepieces.

7) However, if you combine that with my attendance at 2 IWC Collector’s meetings and 2 Factory Tours, then I have my “lucky 13.”

Hi, I am new here and new to iwc, my first iwc pilot 3717 buy this month, is the best of the best, I lost the past 7 years but I will be here the next 7,
Happy birthday.

A lot of time spent...

... and a lot of money saved (up to now) because this forum introduced me to a lot of great choices and I'm still not able to decide ;-)
But the pleasure is sometimes in the waiting...

It's here: our 7th Anniversary Drawing!

This forum is the best place to obtain the latest news about IWC. I enjoy visiting the site and try to do so as often as I'm able to. It has also given me numerous hours of pleasure reading through the various posts and information presented in this forum, as well as the the opportunity to virtually "meet" like minded individuals with the same passion for the brand.

The only down side is the additional time spent pondering when I see a new model that I like or plan to acquire, not to mention the money spent too. At least I'm thankful that my better half is supportive of my love for watches. :)

I haven't been around from the start....

......but since the last 4 or 5 years I think.

What has it cost me to be part of this amazing group of friends & 'knowledge base?
* tickets to SIHH (I don't mind, LOL).
* tickets to Collector's meeting (I don't mind again).
* a few thousand man-hours on this forum (I don't mind).

So no real cost as far as I'm concerned and my lovely wife still accepts it!

In terms of the watches, I('ve) own(ed): [i]almost[i] 7 IWCs during that period:
1. Ingenieur Chrono Alarm
2. UTC Classic
3. Portugues F.A. Jones
4. Ingenieur 866
5. Portuguese Automatic
6. Portuguese Jubilee
7. ----- to be completed in 2008 -----

And I've made at least 7x7 friends on the forum!

7 oh or is that 70

The Forum has been responsible for me buying one contemporary watch - the Collector's Forum Ingenieur which bears the number 70.

I don't have a preference for larger and particularly taller watches so the concentration has been on vintage IWC's rather than the contemporary.

The Forum has cost me a great deal of time in posting responses and a great deal more time doing research on particular watches. The reading of each days posts always brings enjoyment.

5 month forum - 3 watches - ~ 35K CHF -

I am arround only for 5 month, but the forum helped me to make decisions arround buying my first IWC's, after beeing collector for about 20 yrs and owning ~ 12 watches (Breitling, Chronoswiss, Tag Heuer, Eberhard & Co, etc)

Result:
- one Big Pilot 5002
- one Carlson Double
- one Mark XVI for my wife (to "calm" her...;-)

next on "radar": Aquatimer Boesch, Vintage Inge, Portugeser 2000, etc. etc.

will probably sell the rest (all non IWC's)

Joined this friendly forum about 7 months ago (literally on the day i received my first IWC - a Mark XVI Classic) and have frequented the forum ever since...
My wife thinks i have a serious problem with my watch because i stare at it so much, she is amazed by my obsession and has warned me that in all probability it will at some point be damaged... she does not want me get hurt...

at least in our culture, I am yet to see a watch box with seven slots :-)
This Forum is a great place to learn and share and a wonderful meeting point for friends of IWC. I am in a very lucky situation being located in Switzerland and I have been privileged enough to have made a couple of visits to Schaffhausen and met some of the terrific people there.
Cost...........sacrifice? Ask not what the company can do for you..... ask what you can do for the company!

Over the past 7 years

I have been visiting Switzerland 7 times, Schaffhausen twice.

I have bought lots of watches and sold a few. I have kept 7 x 3 of the solid crafted watches from Schaffhausen without thinking about stopping there,

I have written around 477 posts on this forum and read around 77.777.

I have gained lots of knowledge.

I have gained a nice hoppy and lots of great friends.

All the costs have been related to time and money. Both known as renewable resourses.

Three watches here. As for money, that's something that isn't discussed in polite society. Nevertheless, I feel a little bit ashamed. IWC collecting is a part of my life I keep to myself. I prefer to dwell on the satisfactions it provides.

The forum has changed my life...

first of all sorry for my absence on the forum during last weeks / months. There are just times in private and business life where time and other priorities prevent us from doing what we favor the most.

Having said this, for the few times I checked the forum last time, there was a contest or drawing. So I wanted to join, and I'll try to catch-up later with other contributions.

What has this forum cost me ? A lot, I would normally say, however I continue to say to my friends and colleagues that the IWC watches are NOT a cost, as they are easy to sell.
...However, I never sold one... and that's my private secret.

I have been one the 1st on this forum, see the other contest, as I got the one most ever lovely watch for my 40th birthday in 2000. I have to admit, since then there are 10 more, 2 for my wife, 8 for myself (not in balance with Tonny, have to admit). And it includes vintages, and pocket watches.

Has the forum changed my life: YES definitely, it has cost me some money, but I gained friendship, good friends of the kind you may only meet once per year and still feel like it was yesterday. Friends whom one can send a question and 200% rely on their answers. Gained others to talk to, I learned about watches, techniques, the world in which they are marketed, and so on. I could go on, but just believe me: this forum has changed my life. And I mean.... in a very good direction.

All my thanks to MF, IWC and all forumers, which I could all call "friends".
