    Hi,

I've bought a IW5001 and after the excitement died down a bit I noticed a considerable gap between the crown and the case. Is this normal for a IW5001?

There shouldn't be any gap between the crown and case when crown is fully pushed down.
2nd picture is when the crown is in position 1. I would have your watch checked out just to be sure.
