    Hello

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have recently acquired the above model and am struggling to get the it to function correctly.

The second dial is not moving at all. I have wound the crown at '0' clockwise but this has not resolved the problem. The second dial does work intermittently when provided with some movement to the watch however stops after a few minutes. The watch was issued in 2008 and i am not certain of when its last service was.

Please advise on a best possible solution? Perhaps its not wound fully as i know the watch hasn't been used in a year and has been left dormant, or is it just in need of a service?

    Thanks!

It sounds to me lie you've bought a used watch, and possibly one with problems. It sounds like it's more serious than not being fully wound. It's also difficult for us to diagnose this via the Net.

I suggest you should bring it to an authorized dealer, who will need to send it in for repair.

    Sorry!

    Thanks for the prompt response.

I'll take it in to an authorised dealer and feedback.

Good luck and keep us posted. At least you found the best IWC forum in the world!

    Kind regards,

Michael is most likely correct but I would like to add a little more just to be sure. You are new to this Forum but I do not know whether you are new to mechanical watches. Sometimes new owners do not understand the working of mechanical watches. If anything I say is information you already know, I apologize.

Following is a picture of model 3714, though they come with various color dials, numerals, and hands so while the colors of yours may be different, the function is the same.

    i170.photobucket.com/albums/u280/watchdepot/iwc/IWC%20Portugese%20white/PB290001.jpg

The crown that you wind to power the watch is at the 3. When you wind this the dial at the bottom (above the 6) should move continuously and show the seconds going by.

The 3714 is a chronograph. If you push the button on top (near the 2) the large hand pointing to 12 should start to move to count the elapsed seconds. Each time this function runs for one full minute, the upper dial (below the 12) will show how many minutes have elapsed since you started that function. Pushing that top button again will stop the timing function, though the watch will continue to run and the main hands will continue to show the time. Pushing the lower button (near the 4) will cause the timing function to reset to zero.

I am providing this information to make sure you are familiar with the functions of this model which is more complicated than a time only watch. Again, my apologies if you already know this.

If you are not making a mistake in which buttons you wind or push and which dials and hands you read, then Michael is certainly correct and service is probably needed.

And may I add an additional comment. Despite any mechanical problems or general servicing required, you chose a teriffic model IWC. The 3714 is a proven winner in the Collections as it has been offered for many years. It's just simply a great looking watch.

Hope all ends well and you enjoy your new Portugeuse Chronograph. Let us know the outcome.

    Regards,

    Andy
