    Hi guys

I heard that 2012 sihh would be year of the pilots?
Would you suggest buying the IWC 3717 now or wait till the 2012 sihh?
Usually how long does it take after the sihh to reach the AD?
Would there be price increase in the new model if ever? What are your experiences? I will be wearing this watch everyday for the next 5 to 10 years that is why I want it to be a sound investment.

    Thanks

Do you really like the current 3717?

Will you be able to afford another IWC in a year or two?

If the answers to the two questions in the above are "YES", then I would suggest you to go get the 3717 first. Despite what my foot note says, you can always buy more than one IWC... :-)

Knowing that IWC will refresh the pilot line next (this) year, the current 3717 will surely stop production soon (if not already). If you like it and have the budget for it, why not buy it now? Otherwise, in a year or two, if you decided you actually wanted a 3717, you may not be able to find one new. (On the otherwise, if you want to buy one of the newer Pilots then, you could always do that later).

Usually it takes a few months (maybe even 6) for something that has been showcased at SHIH to show up at your AD. (Boutiques will probably get them first before the ADs).

If you like the current 3717 get it. As posted, it does take a number of months from intro to delivery and during that time you have the pleasure of wearing.
I like many on this forum feel you can never have too many IWCs.
Good Luck with your decision and be sure to post a picture when you get it.

    Kevin

PS I have two 3717s the Laureus and a black dial on a strap.

As the SIHH is in January, why not wait another month? There might be a newer version of the chrono that you like. And if you don't like it and the 3717 gets discontinued, you will still be able to find a 3717 at about any AD for a month or two.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    thanks for the replies guys.

it is making me think again. what do you guys think of the portuguese chrono? 3714 or 3717? i can only get one and the next watch would have to wait at least 5 years from now. i want an everyday watch which you can also wear with a suit, jeans, shorts.

The Portuguese Chrono is mostly a dressy watch perfect with a suit that can be worn with jeans too. The Pilot's Chrono is a bit of a sporty watch that can be worn with a suit too. If functions matter: both watches have the same movement, but the Pilot's Chrono has a date, very practical, a day, and an hour counter that helps reading the longer elapsed time, in fact, it is a bit more a chronograph than the Portuguese Chrono. If you are not a suit man, I would go for the Pilot's Chrono, and it is significantly cheaper too. Or you must be terribly in love with the Portuguese Chrono in the first place, which I don't believe because you didn't mention it.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

I love the portuguese chrono because of it's clean and elegant look. However, I would like the date function to be present in such an expensive watch, that is why my next goal is a portuguese automatic... which apparently I can't buy it yet and I feel that I am not worthy enough to wear such a perfect watch yet. I will be dropping by the AD today to look at a the pilot and the portuguese... and wait til 2012 sihh, then make a decision.

Thanks for all your help!! Very much appreciated!!
