Last week I enjoyed reading the post Terry Russell wrote about the 2007 Aquatimer chrono, Cousteau.
Then I noticed something I didn't saw before on the back of the watch.
As you know, the first Cousteau Aquatimer was made in a limited edition of 1953 pieces. 1953, being the year of Cousteau's first big expedition. On the back of the watch, there is engraved the sign of the Alcyone, name and symbol of his boat.
Now on the 2007 edition, there is a engraving of a diver, surrounded by fishes. And when you count these, there are exactly 53...
A nice detail and symbolism of the IWC design team.

Counting fish - a level of detail I had missed

Sounds very much like the secret symbolism

Due to the small error in the Gregorian calender,in the year 5353, April 1 will last 53 seconds longer than today. What a coincidence!

    IWC and symbolism

Probably April fool, but I checked my Aqua 2007 and have more than 53 fishes :-)
Every color is 10 fishes, except the orange ones (11). I count a total of 71 fishes, who else counts more or less?

Then what we need to understand . . .

is the significance of the mystical number, '71'.

    What say you, Dr. Watson?

    Relevance of 71..

I found that 71% of the surface of the earth is covered by water, that sounds significant enough, don't you think?

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

    more on 71

It's worth reading Wikipedia about this number; you can click on the link below.

You will learn that it is the largest supersingular prime, and also the atomic number of lutetium, a lanthanide. And you'll learn that In ancient Israel there was a Sanhedrin headquarters which had 71 judges who judged cases where the criminal deserved the death penalty.

    Michael

    Well; there it is!

Probably means that we have a design jury of 71 fish in a pen on the River Rhine determining the fate of apostate Forum members.

I wouldn't push that twenty-four hour thing too hard, if I were you, Isobars.

Me? I'm hiding under the bed until today is over.

This morning, I thought to ask whether you need ..

some other occupation, i.e. to save you from counting fishes and keep you busy with more useful things...

But waking up, as I arrived in the office at ~ 7:10 am, after a 45 mins drive (as usual when not abroad) I realised that this is not Tonny's behaviour.

Only then, I saw the figure 1 on the date indicator of my MK XV.

So, indeed, it was Tonny to all lengths, as we know and appreciate him. Well done !

    Ciao, Rob.

    Come on Rob!
Counting fish is as important as counting sheep.
My advise is to attend Tonny's symposium : "How to understand Belgian Watch Politics(BWP) "next week in Geneva.
As a matter of fact , I expect you to support your country fellow to the utmost!
    Adrian.
