Last Tuesday, IWC showed its novelties to New York collectors. IWC is a sponsor of a series of presentations organized by WatchTime magazine, and its table attracted huge interest. I previously reported here on the San Francisco and Los Angeles events; the New York event is even larger with 200 collectors.

Here’s some photos of the event, which are a little grainy since flash wasn’t used. The first two show the IWC table:

But what people really came to see was the novelties:

Most of the IWC New York staff was there, including IWC’s North American president, Ben de Clerck. That’s Emily Kwan of IWC on the left and me, partially hidden, at the end of the table.

Collectors could try on the watches, and not just eyeball them:

I had a chance to chat with watch-friends. That’s John Zagami in the center –he’s an executive with Ralph Lauren, and was instrumental in planning the Ralph Lauren line of watches (some of which use IWC movements):

All in all, a very successful event!

represented as well so a broader audience is there any evidence or personal feeling that IWC are attracking new customers from the other brands on display ?

    Thanks for sharing...

    With other Watch Companies

Andrew, I attended the NYC event on Tuesday evening and believe that the IWC table was the most trafficed. Spoke to numerous collectors interested in the Big Pilot.

clearly, there was movement towards IWC...

    Hi Andrew,

It's difficult to generalize from casual experiences, but in New York there seemed to be more interest in some of the complicated pieces, especially the new Da Vinci perpetual. Also, I talked to several very large collectors, including one person who reportedly has over 200 very high-end watches and is now considering his first IWC.

The St Exupery Big Pilot also attracted a lot of interest. It was interesting that the new Aquatimers, while also attracting interest, perhaps did less so than at the WatchTime California events. The Galapagos model was especially well-received, but the perpetuals (da Vinci's, new and Klaus models, plus the Portuguese) were the ones that I talked more about.

The other brands exhibiting covered a wide spectrum --Cartier to J-P Journe to Vacheron. But I think the greatest crowds surrounded the IWC booth. I was talking to one person about that, and he said that the IWC's were "priced right" for the audience.

    Regards,
    Michael

    Thanks Michael,

Very nice report and I understand why the BP is so popular, it's a great watch!

    Kind regards,

    Great to read this trend

that I have also seen outside shop windows too.....sometimes at the weekend one needs to behave badly (potential yellow card offence) to get close to the window area in front of the IWC display.

    The need to behave badly

I had the same experience when I was in Zermatt. There were always people looking at the watches, and the IWC window was the most crowded, although at one shop the IWC window was in the side street. And it was a very well sorted window with more than ten IWC watches.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing rose gold VC Portuguese, at the moment my favourite along with the steel VC Pilot's watch

    good and bad news...

the good news for IWC to get discovered by new collectors ; the bad news ; prices of collector pieces will rise.
    Maybe the moment to buy.

I think no one here would be surprised by

what you say. We have already found out about this great company, and have a head start enjoying our IWC's!
