IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar (moon phase and sapphire) questions

Question 1
I have recently acquired a IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar titanium version. It has taken me a long time but the right deal and the right watch work out to my favor. This is a awesome watch and I just love having it. The watch has been in my possession for about four weeks now and I have noticed that the moon phase seems to be behind about a day or two from what the actual moon phase is. Does anyone know how to adjust the moon phase to match the moon phase you see?

Question 2
The AR coating on the sapphire crystal has some minor scratches but the crystal itself is in excellent condition. Has anyone removed the coating or just replaced the crystal with a new one?

Congratulations what a fantastic watch.

By looking at your photo, your moon phase disc appears to be in the same position as mine, displaying the same amount of moon.

The moon phase display is synchronized to the date of the watch and cannot be advanced without advancing the day, date,, month, and rest of the calendar. When the watch leaves the factory, the date on the dial is set to a benchmark date of a known "New Moon" so the dial readings are all correctly synced.

It is possible, while setting your watch, if you're too aggressive advancing the date with the crown while setting to get the day & date out of synch. I'm not sure about the moonphase, but only because it's harder to tell if that is out of synch.

I would suggest waiting until the next new moon on 20 JAN and see what your display looks like. If it's off, it will need a minor adjustment by a watchmaker. Take it to your local Authorized IWC Agent who may have a watchmaker in staff to recommend service.

Do you know when the moonphase changes(ie midnight or noon)? I know that on some watches(different brands) the date changes at midnight but the moonphase moves at noon?

Minor scratches to the AR coating are almost inevitable. Unless they are glaring or to a degree you cannot accept, just leave it alone. It is not easy or recommended to remove the coating yourself.

Removing it defeats what in my opinion is the major benefit of the technology. Yes, it reduces reflections, which is great, but the real benefit is the increased transmission of light onto the dial. When you reduce the %R you increase the %T. The more light that transmits through the crystal, the better you see the colors and details of the dial. The coating is on both sides of the crystal, btw.

My recommendation, leave it alone unless you can't accept the minor starches which are often difficult to see. If you have to fix the problem, get a new AR coated crystal. You will not be happy with a non-coated dial

i looked at my own moon phase on the 16th and it took look ever so slightly different than yours. mine looks like it's a day behind.

if you post another picture i can try and post another on the same date to compare.
