    Very nice!

How do they compare on the wrist? Does the wider strap on the Panerai make it more stable on the wrist? I have no problem at all with the BP on my wrist but I have heard people that prefer wider straps.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Both are nice, but I prefer the IWC

I don't know about the movement of the Panerai, but it seems to be first class too: at the start of the Big Pilot a minister of our country preferred the Panerai, as the movement of the Big Pilot was not as stable as it is now.

However, to me the Big Pilot of IWC looks better. I do not like that big crown protector of the Panerai, and the crown is at the wrong side for me, as I wear watches at my left wrist. Furthermore, the Big Pilot has a date and a power reserve indicator, both I consider very practical. The Panerai lacks both, so for me the IWC is the preferred watch.

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing steel VC Portuguese

    Agree, both nice>

with substantial preference for the BP from my side, expecially for the movement you mentioned.

the unitas is a stubborn hw movement, the version used by Panerai should be (eta) 6497/2 with first quality parts and a medium level finitures (blued screws, swan neck reg etc.) finds some difficulties compared to the 51111, for many reasons, to my humble opinion, that's obvious.

Congratulations Tom on two very captivating models and thank you for posting.

    Regards,

    roberto

    On the wrist...

The Panerai has MUCH more presence...due to the domed crystal, the wider lug/wider strap and the large crown guard.

A lot of people knock the 22mm lug size of the BP (vs 26mm on the Panerai)...but I personally do not have a problem with the narrower strap that tapers even more at the buckle. I think the BP is a little top heavy...but I really like the look...it accentuates the watch more.

The movement on the BP is superior to the Panerai in almost every way..except maybe durability. The Panerai is more unique in appearance and significantly more rugged feeling. I think of the IWC as "sporty elegant" and the Panerai as "rugged sporty).

Other than their size..the watches are completely different in almost every other aspect.

In my mind the watches are very complimentary to each other.

    Submarine vs cockpit...

Its amazing how clear the roots of these watches are. That just shows how very well designed they are.

I agree with the other folks that the BP houses a more interesting movement, but both watches are significant for the respective brands, and both are very beautiful imho.

    Cheers,
    Evan

    Outstanding pair!

Outstanding pair!... Water and air…. But, in this case, I prefer the BP by far!
