    Hello all,
This is my first post and I wanted to share a vintage watch I just got back from service. I think it is a Cal. 82 and any info provided will be appreciated.

I think the movement and dial are original but I don't think the case is. I'm also wondering if the dial might be solid gold as the lume is off the markers and a couple of dial scratches show gold underneath the white dial.

You can see pictures and details here:

    Hello MMARC77

The reason that you got no answer is most probably because the pictures are not visible. I saw them on another forum and I can answer some of your questions. The pictures are by the way very beautiful. No doubt the movement is the very rare IWC cal. 82. This movement was developed by IWC as to be mounted in a savonette (hunter) ladies pocket watch.
I can read 4 of the 6 movement digits : 7552xx. From the IWC ledger it is 100 % sure that this is a cal. 82 produced in 1920, which was the first year that this caliber has been made. During those days wrist watches became fashionable and the first wrist watches made by IWC had small ladies pocket watch movements as their engine. Some of the cases were made by IWC simply using the pocket watch case and souldering lugs on it. However this case has no case nr. nor the "Probus Scafusa" stamp used by IWC, even when the case was bought by IWC from other companies. This suggest that almost certainly the case is not originally from IWC.
The fact that also the dial has not been signed by IWC is not unusual.
    Kind regards,
    Adrian,
    (alwaysiwc).

    Hello Adrian,

Thank you for the reply and the great information. I'm thrilled you confirmed that it is indeed a Cal. 82.

I was thrilled to have picked this watch up on Ebay for $41 a couple of months ago and IWC truly made and makes beautiful movements. I am keeping my eyes open and hope to pick up a few more to add to my collection.

    Thanks again,

    Mike

Also Adrian, I picked up a case that is marked Avalon I.W.C.CO with arrows on each side and below that 7821794 10 1/2 and I was wondering if that is an IWC case?

I don't know how to post pictures to this site unfortunately.

Here are pictures of Cal. 82 and case in question. The first picture of a case is the case the Cal. 82 was in and the second case is the one I'm wondering if it is an International Watch Company case?

The second case stands for Illinois Watch Case Co. I have been told.

    Mike.
The IWC inscription in the second case looks very unusual to me and I believe it is not from IWC Schaffhausen.
It is a very old case but it has a 7 digit casenumber., far too high for its age to be IWC.
IWC pocket watches with an American gold case sometimes had a so called cress arrow. In your Avalon case the IWC logo is written in a peculiar way : I.W.C.CO.
That I have never seen. More close would be IWC Co.
But the 7-digit number and the name Avalon bring me to the conclusion : not IWC, Schaffhausen.
    Kind regards,
    Adrian,
    (alwaysiwc)

    Thanks Adrian,
Someone on another forum identified it as being Illinois Watch Case Co which makes sense considering the high serial number you referred to.

I did some research using google.
In Oregon is a company that repairs old watches of companies which no longer exist. Among the list with at least 50 brands I never heard of, is ....Avalon

I picked up my second vintage IWC and I think it has the same IWC Cal. 82 movement as my first. There are some differences in the type of script and the location of the three adjustments script but otherwise they appear to be the same movement.

The serial number on the first is 7552and the second is 8749. The case on my recent one is solid 14k gold and is a Cressarrow I believe. The movements are interchangeable in the two cases.

The dial has writing below 12:00 but it is so worn off it's no longer readable. The markers are different on the two dials as well. The hands on the recent one also appear to have been replaced.

Any help or info is appreciated.
