Wow, what a gorgeous watch! The caliber 87 was in production from 1931 to 1947. That's all I can tell you.

    Absolutely brilliant find!

Indeed no doubt this is a genuine IWC ( complete - Case, Dial, Hands crown and Movement) I must confess that I have never come across a Zentra labelled Cal. 87 before - and then in a Genuine IWC case.

Zentra are known and you can find one back here on a pocket watch movement

Herr. Koenig wrote too of Zentra as follows : Zentra, a German midrange quality brand, from the mid-thirties to the fifties bought IWC movements (wrist and pocket) as well as movements of other well known manufacturers (e.g. Zenith) for their high end lines. IWC supplied Zentra for example with a modified Cal. 67, which on first sight doesn't look like an IWC.

The comments from Mark and Hebe about the cal 87 are very interesting.
Most of us know that IWC sold movements to Tiffany, Bücherer and several other watch manufacturers, among them Unitas and Zentra.
In fact this is, I believe, a Zentra case with an IWC cal. 87 movement, stamped Zentra. The pocket watch shown has also the Zentra logo ( picture provided by Thomas Koenig)
    Kind regards,
    Adrian,

    Thanks for those examples, Adrian.

I have another one, the BERGLAND with the C.983.

This movement was made for BERGLAND. It has a ballance without srews and a regulation without swan neck. So, a caliber with reduced production cost.

    But very rare.

    Thanks for posting Heiko.
It is slightly from the topic but...
Could you tell us a bit more about the the escapement unit?
This seems different from the 982 IWC movements.
    Kind regards,
    Adrian.

Wow a cal 587. I have seen few of them an could never buy one. (the price was much too hogh for teh one I have seen)

The funny thing is the guilding instead of nickel cloating.

I once want(ed) to make a post on the ZentRa versions of the IWC movements. But as I had no Cal 587 it has to wait till I get one....

    Kind regards

    Ralph

One for the xperts i hope.
I am restoring a cal 87 and having trouble finding parts such as a crown and winding barrel.
Is there anyway to find out if parts from a cal 86, 88 or 89 would fit as they are close in production and more available ?

    Thank you for your time.
