    Hi guys,

My first post here. I recently purchased an IWC XV classic (black dial) without box, paperwork etc. When I compared it to the XV classic (white dial) and the 3741 both of which I also own and know to be authentic, the thickness of the new XV (black) when viewed from the side seems way too thin compared to the ones I already own. Did IWC at some point in production used case backs with different thickness? The letters on the caseback of the XV (black)seem also slightly larger and thicker.

There are some other discrepancies as well. The standard IWC buckle on the black one is noticeably larger and the dial says "T SWISS MADE T" instead of "SWISS MADE"

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    John

I don't think there's too much to worry about. The case backs look like the same thickness, just one has a narrower edge on the side. It's usual for some minor updates like this between models which may be years apart. I don't know the reason or specific - but similar updates have been observed in other models when it comes to bezels, crystals, dials, caseback engravings, movement engravings, etc.

When IWC stopped using Tritium for luminous numerals and markers on the dials, the omitted the "T Swiss Made T" with simply "Swiss Made". You get extra credit for scrutiny and seeing other variances such as the buckle and case back.

Thank you for that assurance. So I assume it was one of the earlier production of the XV. When did they make the switch from tritium to super luminova--and why?

As a new owner of this black dial XV, I must say the white version feels like a more substantial watch just looking at that raise markers on the dial alone.
