Hi all im new to the forum so go easy on me :).

I have recently saved an iwc watch from getting scrapped for its gold content i have had a look through the catalogues and i am struggling to find it, it was in damaged condition but keeping good time when i received it, i have had the snapped wire luggs fixed and a replacement hour hand fitted there is no logo present on the dial either i know this is quite common on pocket watches?.
Any info would be much appreciated
    thanks

From the movement number and case number "date your IWC" says:

While I agree with Franz, roughly what's the diameter of the movement and the watch itself? Without checking, I would have guessed this is a calibre 83 from the 1930s; calibre 86 is a small ladies' movement.

Also, the dial looks redone to me, perhaps in the original Art Deco style but without signature.

Here is a picture from the IWC catalogue from 1940:

The dial of this watch is quite similar, but the case is different.

    Hi guys

    thanks for your quick replys
i have just popped a pair of reading glasses on and had good look in the sunlight
the dial has gone brownish but still remains black along the edge i think it is badly faded i can just make out the signature i think it said schaffhausen below the 12 i can just make out two slanted "F's".
i havan't got any calipers handy but the cal is 23mm by a ruler and the watch excluding the winder is 31mm wide.
    thanks for the pic.

The dial's original Tiki..are there pre-formed strap pin holes on the inside edge of the chased section (hollowed)..to accept curved-pins?

    well done for saving it.

    Hi Oneredtrim

there are no pin holes the jeweller had stated the wires had been re-welded before, the chase to allow the strap is 17mm, where the pin holes should be the ends of the wire are doubled over in a hollow that extends to the outer casing and welded.
Are we both thinking now that originaly it would of had curved pins?
and perhaps had been damaged and wires welded in place?

    thanks

It looks that way from here, lots of other examples from other manafacturers had the curved pin in conjunction with the hollowed strap accepting section...around the same time-frame and others with wires did'nt.Perhaps our American brothers may know who '105' is?

Definately a Cal. 83. Here's a side by side comparison using your picture rotated.

Tikki, check again if the Calibre number is not actually engraved on the movement between the two bridges, as in the example movement on the left above.

    Best regards

Hi there Tikki! It might be a long shot, but I am curious if you still own this watch? Would love to find out more about the dial. Very interesting piece! Please feel free to email me . K.simon@hotmail.com
