    Good evening,

I have an important question to owners of an IWC with a 18,000 Bph hand wound movement. I have been interested in the hand wound Portuguese. However, I have been wearing a few watches with a so called "pocket watch movement" which is beating at 18,000 Bph and noticed the very loud ticking sound of the escapement. In some cases it even can be noticed by people sitting at the other side of the table. Can anyone tell me.... Is the Portuguese Hand wound silent, detectable, loud or LOUD?

    Best Regards

I would say it is detectable, but I never notice mine ticking on my wrist and I have never had anybody comment on it. I actually find the whirring of my automatic version to be louder when I move my wrist. Perhaps my hearing is not as good as I think it is..

I agree with "detectable". My hearing isn't very good, but I feel the older Jubilee is a good bit louder.

However, personally I think the ticking is a wonderful mellow sound that I just never tire of hearing. It is part of the charm of wearing these watches.

Dick, I agree with you the sound is melodious.
