    Hi
I took my iwc in to my local ad last week to be sent away for repairs.
Whilst there as usual I wandered over to the iwc display and was immediately drawn to the portuguese auto 7 day power reserve.
I tried it on and although its smaller than my bp it feels just as substantial on the wrist. Its not the normal iwc I go for but I have not been able to stop thinking about it since.
Would appreciate some expert feedback from you guys as I have a feeling it may be my latest edition.
    Pete

What's to think about? In-house movement 7 day power reserve and date, it ticked all my boxes so my second IWC was the 500114 model nearly a year ago.

    Hi
I had a similar experience a couple of months back and decided to order the 5001-14 model after trying one on.
Although it is a beautiful watch it seems to be lacking something for me and just does not feel like a 9k euro watch should. I thought it would be my last purchase for a while but I am already looking at other watches and considering making another purchase and possibly trading the Portuguese.

All in all it has been quite disappointing, however I have always owned sports type watches and maybe I just need more time to get used to it.

    Hope this helps

    Regards
    Mark

I like my Port Auto, it's got something special about it, understated elegance would be my words for it, it doesn't scream out "LOOK AT ME", it just is what it is. Beautiful in lines and function.

Oh and mine came +14secs a day, which IWC has regulated down to +4secs a day.

To my thinking, the Big Pilot and Ref. 5001 Portuguese Auto complement one another perfectly.

5001 is my very first Portugese. I had been mulling over IWC watches for a little under two years, eventually settling on the 5001 - its a great every-day watch, fitting well with me suited up, or in Polos and jeans on weekends. It has a very strong face and to me it is its subtle classicism that defines it - not overly ostentatious, nor screaming out at people, but a "I've got your back buddy" in practically every situation.

Agree with previous comments: great movement. You know it from your BP, but now you can see it ;-)

The Portugues is my favourite line anyway and historically important for IWC!

    I really love mine:

Christoph --that's a Ref. 866 (also called an 866AD). Given that, you'll find out more about it in our archives. It is a rare and special vintage model.

Both Bob's watches in that photo are great watches - one a collectors classic (the 866AD) the other a classic IWC - perfect compliment for a Big Pilot Pete!

I would say - go with your gut feeling, re-read CSC's post below and you will know that you cannot go wrong.

I have been having sleepless nights thinking of the 5001-07.

I keep wondering if I should get it?

I just acquired a 2 tone Rolex GMT Master II and a JLC Navy Seals Master Compressor Chrono recently, so just feeling kinda guilty to be buying another watch so soon.

But the Port is just so beautiful......

What would you do if you were me?

    Well guys
I have had a few sleepless nights but today took the plunge and ordered the IW500107.
my mind was already made up as the buying was concerned but all the feedback and pictures that have been posted created my dilemma as to what model.
I seriously considered the IW500109 as I love both the white and black face but my final decision was the white dial to compliment my bp, its been a tough couple of days but I feel happy with my choice.
I will post photos as soon as it arrives and thanks for everyones imput your knowledge and experience has made a hard choice easier.
    regards pete
