    Hello,

I bought an IWC 3714 in November and since the beginning the @6 dial seconds hand is kind of sticking, stuttering/jerking. I think it should be smooth. The watch is +2sec /Day and works perfectly except that.

As there are no clockmaker in IWC Paris AD to tell me what to do, what would be your advice ? I don't want it to be opened for nothing because it works well even this is disturbing.

Please find a video that I uploaded to describe the problem:

Thank you very much for your help.

    Best,

    Simon

Simon, I believe you mistakenly expect to see on your watch a "sweep seconds" hand. I say mistakenly because what your are seeing in the form of movement is a direct result of the frequency/speed of the fine mechanical movement driving the gear trains and ultimately the display hands.

The higher the frequency of the movement the smoother the movement of the seconds hand will appear to the naked eye. Take a defined 1 second time lapsed picture of the sub dial and you would see the actual amount of "beats" within that time and be able to calculate the frequency of the movement.

Quartz powered and motor driven movements of course do not typically display this type of "jitter" - as the are continually "driven".

Of course, some mechanical "hi-beat" movements are oscilating at such a high rate, that the seconds hands appear to be smoother - but in the end, it also "ticking".

Thank you very much Mark for your kind words and clear explanations. I understand now that indeed I can't expect a perfect sweep movement.

But as you can see in my video I found my seconds hand movement very irregular: youtu.be/yWjDPsIuKsg

Do you think, this is very disturbing ? Do you think I can wait to service it ?

I found on internet that it is normally due to space between gearings. When vertical the seconds hand movement is smoother than when in horizontal. members.iinet.net.au/~fotoplot/invicta/invicta.html
