    Hello,

I have a question on servicing IWC's, when is it warranted? At 5 years or when the watch is showing abnormal performance? Where is it a good place to take your IWC for service, warranty and out of warranty? What's the process and around how much the cost? Turnaround time? If anyone can enlighten me on the subject, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Several questions to address in your post, so here's my best try:

    1. I would not adhere to a 5 year rule. I tend wait until there is a reason to send an IWC back for service.

    2. I take my IWC to my AD to have it sent to the appropriate service center. For normal routine service of contemporary models, it is likely to be serviced in Dallas. If your IWC is an vintage model, it is likely to go to Schaffhausen. I prefer having my AD deal with shipping an insurance issues vs. doing it myself. Occasionally, when I have been in Schaffhausen, I drop my watch off, sans the strap.

    3. Turn around time is hard to gauge and there is no hard and fast rules. It can be weeks or months depending to on what is being done. Likewise cost is variable and we normally do not discuss service issues or cost here.

I hope this is helps a bit. Others may chime in with better or corrected info.

    3.

Would it also be a good idea to, towards the end of the 2 year warranty period, to send it in for servicing for nicks/dings/accuracy issues (even if not 'serious' issues yet) ? I have not done this myself yet, but on reading this suggestion in the archives I thought its a good idea.

Thanks for the advice all. Guess I'll wait until my out of warranty watch start to act up and send it in thru an AD for service. As far as sending in a watch for service at the end of the warranty period Shing, I actually just did this for my Mark XVI. I ask for regulation and accuracy check and IWC in Fort Worth did a full service, least that's what the documentation stated when I got the watch back.

Thanks MJ. Greetings from HK to California/Texas / Fremont/Fort Worth. These pics of your lovely neck of the woods make for great backdrops for in my opinion a perpetual calendar and big pilot st expuery :)
