    Hi.
I own an IWC Top Gun Pilot (IWC3789) and have an offer to buy a IWC Tropic Rubber Band. I think this will be a very nice combination, problem is only that the IWC3789 is 21mm while the Tropic is 22mm. I have heard the Tropic Band is relatively soft and the curved ends should also help. Any opinions if this will fit or not?

    Thanks.

I have put a 22mm strap on my 21mm lugged pilot and it looks fine.

I asked IWC and they strongly adviced not to. So I think I will pass.

    Thanks for your input.

If you use a tool to detach and reinstall the springbars, there will be very high pressure on the lug of the case, because 22mm simply do not fit easily between 21mm wide lugs. The sturdy rubber strap could cause even more pressure. The 3789 has a ceramic case. The material is very scratch resistant, but is likely to break if there is too much pressure or an impact. So I would also recommend not to mount this strap.

May I suggest the following option:

With "rubber" bands it is easy to shave the sides of the band at the springbar connection points. I have done this and it is a easy process to do. You won't need to remove much material equally from each side of the strap to make it properly fit . If one was to look at the finished product, unless told what was done, it would be very difficult to spot  any alteration took place.

If you are considering the 22mm Tropic Rubber Band that was originally supplied with the Vintage Collection  Aquatimer, it is a great strap.
