    Gentlemen

After doing a lot of research on the internet, I finally have to decide between two different watches:

1; The IWC Portuguese Chronograph 371417 in steel with blue dials and a leather strap

2: The Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Grand Date in steel with blue dials and a leather strap.

Both watches are extremely nice, but very different from each other.

    Now to my question:

Why should I buy the IWC and not the JLC?

    Give me your arguments, gentlemen.

    IWC versus Jaeger

You ask that question on an IWC forum...
Think you know my answer allready.
Go for the Portuguese (!) a perfect watch.
The vintage model is also pretty on the other side, although you can not tell time from that point of vew.
    greetings

    agree 1005 Bas!

Yes I know that this is an IWC forum.

Thats why I want to hear your arguments: What makes the IWC the better watch?

    Quality?

    Design?

    Technology?

    I have just sold a Reverso ...

I loved the watch but I couldn't cope with its vulnerability to security scanners. Nevertheless, JLC is a fine brand.

    No arguments here...

Pichao. You have selected 2 nice watches - and I would say there are no quality, design, or technical arguments you can make for one over the other.

As you know, JLC and IWC share a very close tie with their parent company, and in the past there have also been a number of employees and designers who worked for both firms. From time-to-time there has also been some collaboration of movements, and sharing of components between the brands.

Your choice needs to come down to taste and preference. On one hand, you have the "rectangular" Reverso - with 2 dials. A fantastic concept, which you cannot compare to the IWC 3714. In the Portuguese, you have a chronograph, and idyllic, tradition-inspired Portuguese, large-format case design which may appeal to you.

As a brand, both IWC and JLC strive to deliver quality products with innovative designs - and as "sister companies" they are managed to bring "divergent" designs to market - because the parent company would not want one brand to cannibalize the revenues of the other.

it would be great for you to choose the IWC Portuguese Chrono - and we would welcome your posts of some photos and engage in discussion with us here.

very hard to decide on this one

Both are nice. Quality are about the same. Both comes from prestigiou watch houses. Portugese chrono uses a heavily modified eta 7750 movement. JLC's is an in-house movement. IWC's movement being a ETA-based is probably going to be more robust and accurate. JLC's movement might be a bit fragile. I'll probably say the Portugese chrono is more versitile. You can wear it dressed-up or casual.

It'll probably comes down to whether you want a rectangular shaped or round watch.

very hard to decide on this one

Thank you gentlemen, for helpful advice.

Yes the IWC is probably more versatile, and can be dressed up and down. The JLC is more of a jewellery piece to me. But a very beautiful one.

As you say, its all a matter of personal taste and personality...

    I'm a fan of both...

JLC makes wonderful watches. The Reverso is iconic, but too elegant for everyday use.

IWC Portuguese is iconic as well, but is more versatile.

If I'm a one watch guy, I would take the IWC has down.

because time is round... not squarent

i received my Movement book last week and the photographer apologises for not including any square movements and explained that the reason he did not was that "time is round".
    i agree with him!
    buy the IWC!
where are you going to post the JLC to show it off anyhow!

    The reverso is a classic!...

And no doubt a fine and beautiful watch, but every time I tried one it looks like a lady´s watch: too tiny, too slim, too elegant, too delicate. A matter of taste I guess but I would go for a Portuguese and in this price range I´d look for a 5001.

    Just my two cents
