Reading the post from kimhoon below and the many answers it received, I'm curious to know how many members of the forum are the proud owner of that great watch. From that post, I identified five one. Any more?

    Jubilee Portuguese

    Bonjour Jean,
There already at least 5 owners of a Jubilee Portuguese in Belgium and the Netherlands, while the total number of forum members in those two small countries that post regularly is less than 10.
    Regards,
    Adrian.

    I own a SS version

Had the rose gold, sold it and bought a stainless a few years back.

    One of my favorite watches.

    Jubilee Portuguese

    Bonjour Adrian!

That's a pretty high ratio, nearly 50% ! But I understand that well, this watch being among the prettiest of the modern Portuguese line. I always like to see pictures revealing the movement.

    Congratulations to all owners

    Regards,
    Jean

    the unobtainable vs. accessibility factors...

I think it's interesting that so many forum members have this watch. It is a great model, but might would have faded into obscurity if only 50 were made, or at least the price would have been out of reach.

Correspondingly I would argue that it would have been less valuable (or more correctly less valued) if 4000 were produced. I see much less of a rush for the Vintage Collection Portuguese which to me is a superb watch --same idea, slightly less beautiful movement but arguably an even better dial.

To put the matter another way, its rarity makes it special but its availability makes it find-able and own-able. That makes it almost THE iWC Collectors' watch. But I think the Vintage Collection one comes close --it's just not as rare.

A few years ago, Georges Kern commented on the Hermes business model --several of their key items (like Birkin handbags I suppose) are findable, but there are waiting lists. As a strategy that's promoted Hermes' exclusivity, but it's not too exclusive. Perhaps the same applies here.

    Regards,
    Michael

    Maybe it's the movement...

On the Jubilee one, there is an inscription referring to the event (1868-1993), while nothing comparable appears on the new Vintage Portuguese. AMHO, this would have add a little plus. But I totally agree with you that this model compares well with the Jubilee, probably with a better aesthetic.

    Jean
