What a fantastic evening yesterday at the annual Laureus Charity Night! Amazing amount of money raised for a very good cause.

The event was so well organized and as soon as we arrived we headed straight to the IWC setup which had a Watchmaker dismantling a movement. It was really nice to speak to the gentleman. After a few disuccsions,he pointed me in the direction of the IWC auction piece on display which was a "unique Platinum IWC Spitfire Perpetual Calendar Digital Date Month Laureus". Stunnning! This turned out to be for me the best auction, the bids just kept on rising and settled at a staggering amount (thankfully for the charity).

It was certainly a night to remember, a great atmosphere with so many stars turning out to support the charity. A great deal of money was raised that will benefit so many people.

    Congratulations Laureus.

Wait...where did this watch come from? A blue dial Spitfire? Is it a precursor to next year's edition?

well, based on the muhammad ali big pilot which first came out as a charity version 1/1 - i'd guess (hope) that another larger edition of this is not far behind? let's hope... would love to see this in person. (blue + perpetual + steel... might just be that more obtainable than the 5021/5032s)...

My goodness and what an absolutely beautiful watch. The night raised 440,000 CHF for the Laureus Foundation Switzerland.

Believe not only Kevin but also Andrew, but it is the blue dial that seems to get Alan just a bit excited now and again.
As for Andrew he not only has some if not all but he participates in some of the charity cycle rallies.

Thanks for sharing the story and pictures. That blue Spitfire does look stunning! In gold it's already a very impressive piece, does anybody know the weight of this Pt version?

    Kind regards,

If you are a facebook follower of IWC you will see a very high quality "photograph like image" of the back of a watch that one could be led to believe was the watch that was auctioned.

I.e. it has the engraving "Laureus Charity Night Zürich 2012 - 1/1" although it has the generic case number 2345678 - indicating it is only an image and not the actual watch.

However interestingly it has Au750 as a stamp indicating Gold rather than Platinum - which would have Pt.

Is this an indication that we may have other metal variations in the future - "STEEL PLEASE - pretty please" ! Like we used to see in the St Exupery series. I am putting some of my savings aside - just in case ;-)
