Hi everyone, I'm planning to get a Portuguese 5001-09. But I've got quite a few issues of this model regarding to the movement accuracy when I googled it. Has anyone face the accuracy problem ? This would be my very first IWC so I would expect a little more perfection. Thanks

STVLEE, the problem with "using Google" is that you most often don't get to the real facts.....

Here, on this forum which is the best place on the web, to ask and get honest answers on IWC watches you will get to know fact!

And I for one will tell you, that whilst not the most accurate watch in my collection, my 5001 runs fantastically well and is within 3-4 seconds a day now (for a watch that is now almost 4 years old with lots of wrist time)!

Others here, like Lucio who own watches with the same movement will tell you that his watch only lost 3 seconds in total after a whole month!

So, nothing wrong with the Portuguese 5001-xx and if you want style, class and a well finished movement that runs accurately at a modest price (compared to some of the other watches out there from other brands) then go ahead and realize your plans. You wont regret it.

Mechanical watches, are just that - mechanical, and if as you write you seek a "more perfection" from a pure time-keeping perspective, then possibly a quartz timepiece is for you or opt to spend upwards of 5-6 times the list price of the 5001 and buy some other mechanical timepiece. ... (oh by the way - even then, often those 100K plus timepieces don't do much better than a well regulated 5001 either).

My 5001 is brand new - 2 weeks old and runs perfectly accurate!

All of my IWC movements, whether in-house or not, run within spec 0 to +7 seconds per day. I don't obsess about accuracy or consistency of timekeeping. I buy for the pure enjoyment of a beautifully designed timepiece with incredible workmanship in manufacture and a significant history and tradition behind the brand.

As Mark points out, if you want pure accuracy go for a quartz watch.

I suggest to browse this forum. You will find a vast amount of information about accuracy, the 5001 movement, regulation, etc.
If you are looking for the best accuracy, choose a quartz watch. If you prefer craftmanship, a mechanical watch is the way to go.
As others said, this forum is far more reliable than your average google search.
You won't go wrong with the 5001.
    Good luck,
    Peter

You know it is funny. I am at the point where I don't pay attention to watch accuracy anymore. It just does not matter. I rotate the watches so often that I have to reset them anyway most of the time because they have stopprd.

I am the same way....I have never timed my watches to see how accurate they are. That said, I always appear to be on time when wearing my 5001-14. Of course, when sporting a 5001, you are allowed to arrive fashionably late if you choose.
