Numbers (~500 Yacht Club II) and Feedback
Hi all
Sorry - the numbers I gave are clearly misleading (sorry). What I should have written is that the Cal3524 was made in those quantities (according to a tabulation in a former Watch International). I dont know in which models they all ended up.
Like you all I believe that the numbers were lower and approximately 500 for the Ref 3211/3212. I asked exactly this question to Hannes Panntli in Geneva in April and he mentioned that more YCII automatic models were made when compared to the Polo Club (359 examples) and also that he was looking forward to the outcome of an archive audit on production number to confirm these numbers (for all models).
He also mentioned that the YCII was named as an easy way to continue with the outstanding success of the YC models - Branding extension.
Hannes also strongly supported the suggestion of Genta's involvement in the design of this model.

All the best Andrew!
And great watch to celebrate with. Best wishes for health and more IWCs to come!

Gerald Genta - remark
Congratulations, Andrew, for your birthday and for the lovely addition to your collection.
As to Gerald Genta - I wish to draw your attention to a catalogue published by IWC in the late 1970's (probably 1978) bearing the title "Ingenieur SL~Yacht Club II ~ Da Vinci". It might be just a coincidence that Genta designed two out of the three models which are described there- the Inge SL and the Da Vinci beta 21. But I wouldn't be surprised that the reason IWC published this catalogue is simply because all 3 models were designed by the same person.
possible but
for a historian that's conjecture at best. it's the first I've ever heard about the orignal Da Vinci, and the fact three mdoels were in one brochure certainly doesn't approach proof, let alone appropriate standards for journalism or academia.
Sorry --I won't buy it without a lot more.
Regards,
Michael
Genta or not, it's a beautiful watch! Happy BDAy
A stunning watch on a special day!
Andrew,
Congratulations with your 36th birthday, your health, and this fantastic watch. I admit: I am in love too (in the watch enthusiastics way).
Regards, Peter
Genta and Da Vinci - thats new for me too (nt)
THANK YOU
everybody for your kind remarks and kind wishes.
I also received some nice emails (off-forum) and I promise that I will bring this piece to a next collectors gathering I attend.
There are already definitely three of these models "in the forum" - a get together would be tops.
Andrew
Absolutely right
As I wrote it might be only a coincidence. In the absence of any conclusive evidence that GG was involved in the designing of the YCII, it is no more than a mere guess.
