    Hello everybody,
Just wanted to thank you for all the useful information I was able to find on this awesome forum during my search for a Big Pilot.
In the end I was able to find a 5002 in apparently fine condition and I took the chance (bought from a reputable dealer, but still unseen by person).

Here it is, what do you think? Is everything alright?
Serial number is 295xxxx from October 2004.

The strap has some kind of rubber-like line on its edges, is that normal?
As for the rest, does it look ok? Sometimes the dial looks blue-ish to me but maybe it's just my eyes..

    Thanks!

Hi, what a great watch and yes it looks more than fine! 200% IWC and the 5002 is still my all time favorite BP!

The edges of the strap are finished with that 'rubber-like' stuff, to match the colour of the leather. I guess your strap is not new, so after a number of years it wears off a bit sometimes.
With regard to the blue-ish look of the dial: that's from the Anti-Reflective coating on the glass, so that's normal too.

    Enjoy this masterpiece ;-)

    Kind regards,

    Bob

    Thank you very much Bob!

I'm happy to know that everything looks correct.

The watch feels like a very solid piece, mean and comfortable, I really like the overall feel it gives.

Congratulations on a fantastic watch! Beautifully tough!
Are there chamfers (polished bevels) on the lugs?

    Little update.
Wearing this watch is great. I don't know how to put it into words, but my small collection includes a Daytona and a Submariner, and none of them gives the same feel of solidity and straight-to-the-point as the Big Pilot.

I am also glad that I was able to find a 5002, because the 5009 is beautiful but a little in the "luxury" camp, while the 5002 is more in the "great tool" camp, and I prefer that. For my tastes only, obviously.

    Thanks again everyone!

The 5002 is the coolest of the BPs. You made a great choice. I have seen this watch with an off white canvas strap (3rd party) that is just super cool. I have mine on a lighter brown 3rd party leather strap for deployment buckle that is also really cool. Do some research on the internet. I personally think the newer Santoni straps are just not rugged looking enough for this watch.

A great choice for the coolest BP out there! I have 4 different straps for my 5002 and they are all from IWC! A rubber strap from the older Ingenieur, canvas strap from the Top Gun, a special edition Top Gun and the original one.
