Hello,
Im am new to this forum and I would like to introduce my 'new' daily watch:
a 1955 IWC caliber 89, ref. 309.
A few years back at night I saw a listing on e-Bay for this particular watch, and it seemed to me as a bargain. Even though it needed a small service, without hesitating I clicked on the 'buy' button. The seller was a lady living near Paris, France.
After that, the watch sat in a bank vault with my other watches. This year my uncle, who is retired suggested to service the watch for me, he took pictures during the process. He told me that the movement was in great condition. After it was regulated, it only lost a few seconds a day, which is within chronometer specifications and shows the durability and quality of this movement.
The dial is in good condition, it changes from ivory to white to even silver, depending on the light, it does have a small spot right in the middle, but it is not that obvious to the naked eye. The hands an indexes are still shiny and even the lume is in good condition. The case itself has never been polished, and still retains the factory finish, a nice combination of brushed and polished area's, smooth and sharp edges. The winder has the fish logo, so it is a waterproof watch. I also think it still has it's original perspex glass. I did however add a Hirsh Forest strap, which is made of untreated brown leather, so while wearing it, it gains patina, which really compliments the watch.
It sits comfortable on the wrist, quite light, it is a very timeless and elegant watch. I am very pleased with it, here are a few pictures. Enjoy.
Kind regards,
Christof
