    Hi
I am considering to buy this the following piece. An MKXI.
Now I know almost nothing about IWC and about this particular model but I find it gorgeous. I read on the internet that many parts might be aftermarket or fake. That is why I am reaching this forum. Your help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

The Mark 11 is an icon. If you dont know so much about IWC and the Mark 11 you must read this article Man is not lost
Fantastic historical watch! The one in the pictures looks fine to me.

Its an early model (1948) with a movement without shock protection.
The movement is from a serie, I think, specially made for this watch (c.89 angl.) (angl. =anglaise = for UK). It has the for this serie characteristic slighly bigger cover stone on the balance.

It could be a tritium dial without the (later) marking for tritium, so take care handling the dial.

A very nice collectors watch, not for daily used (missing shock protection)

A correct, nice watch, Sorry price discussions are not alowed here, check auction sites for actual prices.

    regards
    Ralph

Thank you so much for your time everyone!

Do people fake this model often ? What should I re-examine ?

Well, let me first say that I am not a collector of IWC military watches. I have admired them over the years, but never owned one.

Having said that, I would be very concerned about the dial on the one linked. I have no confidence that it is original, and in fact suspect that it is a full redial.

So, while I am inclined to defer to the judgement of those who have more experience with the model, the appearance of the lettering alone would prevent me from considering a purchase of the watch, and I would minimally suggest that you demand bigger and better images.

If a seller is unable to provide clear, high-quality images of an expensive watch, then it is generally wise to walk away.

    Regards,

    Tony C.

From the pictures it looks ok to me but they are not that clear and need to be close ups before you can have some idea what is for sale. Are you anywhere near the watch so that you could look yourself ? If so you can get a better idea of the dial finish i.e. does it look redone and do the numbers look correct. If you can get to see it do as much research on the 1948 (early) version as you can. They do appear at auction and for sale with dealers so you should have some comparisons.
    Also some useful websites:
www.gregsteer.net/IWC/Mark_11/mark11a-en.pdf (for general mk XI info.)

moeb.on-rev.com/dyIWC/dyIWC.irev (very useful aplet to date and identify the watch (hopefully))

www.mwrforum.net/forums/showthread.php?71922-IWC-MK11-1948-lowest-issue-number&highlight=iwc+mark+xi (from a search on the very useful military watch forum)

Don't rush, there are a few out there so if it doesn't feel right walk away. Good luck
