... but strange things can happen. Last weekend I was in Amsterdam and visited a few AD's to check up on the latest models. Two of them had the 5004 on display. Untill then I always thought the BP was far to big for me, but after putting it on and of several times my prejudice began to fade. I really began to love the watch, its look and feel, the great workmanship that goes into it, the balanced design. And now it's constantly on my mind gently calling my name. I know, I know, I should take my medication, but I'm afraid it won't help. Maybe you guys can talk me out of this. Tell me please the 5004 isn't worth it, that it's just another watch, that I don't need a big pilot, that it's nothing special, that I better go for the 5002 instead or a simple pilot chrono, tell me anything to stop the craving.... Or is there a slight possibilty that this is indeed a special watch?

    Any comments are welcome.....

    you're told...

you posted: "5004 isn't worth it, that it's just another watch, that I don't need a big pilot, that it's nothing special, that I better go for the 5002"

the BP 5004 IS worth it.
it is not JUST another watch (it's an IWC).
you DO need a big pilot.
    it is VERY special.
that I better go for the 5002 AS WELL AS THE BP

    now go get it!

Once the bug is in your ear there is no...

sense procrastinating. If the watch really is speaking to you by all means add it to your collection. The BP is one of the iconic IWC models that will be an important addition to any one's collection.

Good luck with your decision, but I can tell you are hooked. It is only a matter of time.

Never thought I'd fall in love with a BP...

    Hello Norbert

I was from the beginning of 5002 launch, dreaming of BP, but thought it is too expensive. As it happened, somehow reading these forum messages (read Uhren virus getting worse), BP didnt seem to be so expensive anymore... I am happy owner of a 5004 and it really has character. Its a bit more versatile than 5002.

    Go ahead!

    Regards
    Jon

    I just love mine....

...in many ways I consider this model the "quintessential" IWC watch. Well, that and the 5001 and the CFI and the Jubilee and the....

Seriously, I love this watch because of all it represents. I wear mine all the time.

    Michael

Once you start dreaming, it will never stop...

it will become an obsession, a madness, fetish, fixation, mania, pictures of the BP will float before your eyes as you daydream of it being strapped to your wrist.
    Go for it Norbert 8-)
ps This obsession was the same for me, except it was for a vehicle. I bought it on Feb 29, 2008. I liked it a lot and started to add things to it. But I started to look at another vehicle, which I really loved, but I thought it was too expensive. I kept looking at it on line and kept driving over to the dealership to check it out. On May 3rd, 2008 I tradedin my "old" vehicle in and got my dream vehicle. Expensive, yes, but I always turn and look at it as I walk away from it. 8-)

It's a great watch. I love the new 5004 updated dial - think about the DIVERSITY it will add to your collection - you need a watch a little larger than the others....

At least your not as bad off as Stuart Mogell.

I tried for years not to buy one.....

for all the reasons you mention. It was too big, did not "make sense" was too much outside the limits for me. It was no use. I finally was lucky enough to find a mint transitional Big Pilot. It is one of my favorite IWCs because it doesn't fit my "profile". This article from Watch International published years ago sums it up and I find it quite funny, but there must be some truth to it. : )

I hope it is ok to post this here in the IWC forum, for the pleasure of the forum members.

Looking forward to seeing photos of your new Big Pilot.
