I passed up the opportunity to buy a Vintage Collection Aquatimer a couple of years ago and have been kicking myself ever since. I don't know how many were made but they seem to be very difficult to come by, and I've looked pretty much everywhere and asked everyone I could find who might have a lead. As luck would have it a fine gentleman from Finland found a WTB ad that I'd posted on a well-known watch forum and told me he was thinking about selling his. Fast forward to today and the watch was delivered by FedEx this morning and I've been wearing it since. It's everything I thought it would be, and more. I love the dual crown supercompressor design, the internal bezel, the beautiful dial, handsome, nicely finished case, and the wonderful strap. It's THE Aquatimer I've wanted to own and I'm simply thrilled that it's finally on my wrist. And now, the obligatory wrist shot:

Congrats mate!! It's awesome. I am similar to you. I nearly bought one 18 months ago but passed it up. Then I got a NOS in the middle of last year. I agree with everything you said and totally understand why you love it. It's genius. Post some more pics.

    Cheers,

    Jarrod

Thanks Jarrod. You were very lucky to find a NOS VAT. This one was sold in 01/13 at an AD in The Netherlands and appears to have been gently worn. I'll shoot some more pics and post them shortly.

Cool! Yes, more pics please. Your one looks as good as new anyways. And yes again, I was lucky. And I love it. You will too!

    Cheers,

Very nice find! I have to say it is my favorite of the Vintage Collection and was definitely one of the harder of the collection to find, even when they were still being produced - congratulations!

Thanks Ben, it's my favorite as well. Although a Vintage Ingenieur like Jarrod's would be a nice complement. Maybe one day.

I agree with Ben. When the Vintage Collection was launched, the Portofino, Portuguese and Ingenieur caused much excitement. The Aquatimer was a slow burn but now it really stands out from the others.

Congrats, I agree with you, that VC AT is indeed the coolest of the set. Good job tracking one down - and very good decision getting one!

Posts like this just made me wished I got into IWC earlier, an in this case, specifically 2008.

    Wonderful AT, congratulations!

Thanks! Was that at a NYC AD?

BTW, looks like we're "neighbors". I'm in the SF Bay Area as well.

Thanks, I'm sure we've all missed some good ones over the years for one reason or another. Two others I regret passing up were the Vintage Collection Ingenieur and the BP 5002. Oh well, the hunt is half the fun :)

It was at the NYC IWC boutique, the VC-AT wasn't physically there, but they said they found one in one of the other IWC stores.

Where about in Bay Area are you? Drop me a note at thomashan@gmail.com and we should see if we're close by :)

    Congratulations! Beautiful watch.
And a very nice, very cool interpretation of the vintage ref. 1812 imo
