    a special roll-out ; not a main theme for 2008

Shortly you'll see these watches on the main IWC "splash page". I think they're really a nice idea.

Relative to your quick-to-be-critical question about are they true pilot's watches, with respect they all have sturdy characteristics and a useful design, but really every expensive pilot's watch, by any company today, is a grown-up's fantasy.

I doubt a Big Pilot's Watch has been in more than a passenger seat of a commercial jet (and a JU-52 on a promotional ride). I doubt if any more than Lt. Snodgrass' Top Gun watch has been in an F-18. Same for the Ref.. 3717, the St Ex models, etc. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that -- they're great looking and functioning watches.

We should appreciate these watches for what they are, and not kid ourselves about what they are not.

    Regards,
    Michael

yes, and one can order extra small ones

...for those with more than one son, if there's an intent that all will have one like Dad.

    Great idea!

I really like the idea but see that the Dad version only comes in Pt. That makes it too expensive for my wallet.

The option of being able to buy extra smaller ones is great too.

    Kind regards,

    Cinq

    Creative father and son(s) concept

I really like this idea ... actually a lot. Although it could be seen as corny in some eyes - I 100% see this as a very creative idea with potentially big impact.....and I am sure follow up.

It's a pity that the material for the case was not the same. This would make the partnership better in my view.

I also thought - of some earlier posts - when a wish-list was created for a bigger Mark XVI - but I actually like the concept of having two different watches resemble each other aesthetically like these two clearly do...very clever, since the differences will actually equal the similarities. The selection of pilots watches over other options eg Portofino, Da Vinci is also appreciated but perhaps a Father and son Aquatimer would be a super idea for the future. Nicely implemented.

If there are great announcements like this before the SIHH in April we must be in for a whopping treat in April-----also some marketing and maufacturing practice for 2009 when the SIHH will be earlier in the year ??

    Great work IWC.

    Andrew

    What a great idea >

    Very original idea.

In a way I am glad I only have one son. My problem is that my son has a bigger wrist than I have (he is also 10cm taller) so I'm afraid he will claim the BP.

    Thanks for spotting this.

    I really like the concept...

Father and Son, human connections expressed through watches. It reminds me of the once more prevalent custom of giving engraved watches to family members for special occasions - graduations, birthdays, anniversaries.

As for the particulars of these watches - I need to see them in person. In the photos, the silver dials with orange markers look a bit washed out and overly reflective, but I suspect they will look quite different in person.

Thanks for pointing out this little preview - it whets our appetite for the many intros coming shortly.

    Regards,

    David

    Fantastic idea and a correction

First of all: This idea is really cool. I must not ever show this pair to Janek because he'll want it immediately and this will be one of my greatest financial problems ever. Damn!

That's what I consider perfect marketing with really great products.

Second: Michael, you stated: "I doubt a Big Pilot's Watch has been in more than a passenger seat of a commercial jet". I disagree. There's at least one passenger jet Pilot on the German language IWC forum wearing a Big Pilot's watch.
Of course you're right. A Pilot's watch is a fancy item today. But even appreciated by real pilots. If the definition of a "real pilot" can stand the judgement of John Malkovich in "Pilots": nifty uniforms etc. ;-)
