Hi all
Next month I'll depart on another expedition, after waiting a year because it was not political advisable to travel (MH-17)to tjetjenie (RUSSIA).
Facts:
Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe, and the tenth most prominent peak in the world. As a dormant volcano, Elbrus forms part of the Caucasus Mountains in Southern Russia, near the border with Georgia.
Elbrus has two summits, both of which are dormant volcanic domes. With its slightly taller west summit, the mountain stands at 5,642 metres (18,510 ft);[2] the east summit is 5,621 metres (18,442 ft).
While not posing substantial technical climbing challenges on the standard route, Elbrus presents dangers such as altitude sickness, weather and wind.
Elbrus can be climbed without supplementary oxygen, but only by the most accomplished mountaineers and at increased risk. Humans do not think clearly with low oxygen, and the combination of extreme weather, low temperatures, and steep slopes often require quick, accurate decisions.
Writing this down and reading it again, you all know I'm not crazy ( neither a highly experienced mountaineer or capable climber) and do not have a death wish as well. But we have decide to do the alternative route, and climbe from South over the saddle to the Northside of the mountain. That means we have to take all equipment with us (!) 32kg a person in total. You understand I have been training for months to get into top-shape.
My main concern now is what AT to take with me...
I promiss to post a full report with pictures (like my trip to Everest basecamp II and Mount KILIMANJARO Tanzania)!
