    Hi Guys,

I am totally new to IWC watches and in fact proper watches.

I just bought a INGENIEUR AUTOMATIC Vintage version (3233). I have been looking it on internet for a few month, love the style of it. I am still wearing it when I am at home :)

But I am a bit annoyed by one thing, the noise of it. Firstly, I can hear the tick of the watch as far as about half metre away. I couldn't hear a thing from my dad's breguet watch if I don't press my ear onto it… Secondly, when I move my wrist fast, or just shake the watch a bit, I can hear the noise when rotor spins, it sounds like there is a small metal ball in the watch case.

I don't know if it is a normal thing for this watch, so I am a bit worried. I have seen some topics about the noise of IWC watches, however none of them was about this model, so if someone can clear my doubt, I would be grateful for that.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

hearing the seconds tick half a metre away is odd in my opinion, even if the surroundings are perfectly quiet -- that at least is my own experience with modern IWCs. My loudest ticking IWC is the ref 5251 'original portofino' that is more than 20 years old - on my wrist right now and I can hear it easily - and in a quiet environment I can hear it tick 50 cm / half a metre, away.

hearing the sound of the rotor spinning is normal - that is nothing to worry about.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your Ingenieur. As Shing already stated, the noise of the rotot is normal. The ticking depends a bit on how sensitive you are too. I can hear my Pilot UTC ticking away at almost half a meter too.

Maybe you could visit a IWC dealer and listen to some other and similar watches to check?

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

    Greetings,

I have the 3233 Laureus Edition and can concur the rotor noise is normal. As far as the ticking being heard from a distance, in a very quiet environment I can hear ticking from approximately 6-8 inches away.

My grandfather needed the assistance of a hearing aid and used to buy the latest and greatest constantly. Once he said with his most recent purchase, he could hear his watch ticking from an arms length, turns out it was his Pacemaker. So I asked him how much that state-of-the-art aid cost? He looked at his watch and replied, about 4:15.

Enjoy that VC-Inge...it's a classy, stunning watch.

Thanks Guys, I think will pay a visit to a watch and try to listen the same watch again to see if it sounds similar.
