Hi Everyone! As you can see from my last post it has been awhile!

As I was about to decide which watch to go to, LIFE got in the way. I
have been waiting for awhile, and I must say it was a long and challenging journey to be able to arrive at this point and FINALLY, after 3 tug-of-war years of should I or should I not, I have managed to break through and got myself an IWC watch.

I have had a lot of firsts and milestones this year (being a dad, managerial role, new house etc..) and what better way to celebrate and commemorate it by getting an IWC portuguese chronograph 371445. Patience is indeed a virtue, and if you wait long enough, you might get what you want and even more!

Thank youNow I have yet to figure out how to post photos!!!! Lol!

Great choice Watcheroo. There's good reason the 3714 has been in the Collections for so long. Iconic design and a watch that can be sporty or dressy, plus it pairs well with many strap shades. It offers so much variety making it a perfect first IWC.

Enjoy and congratulations on your decision,

    Cheers,

    Andy

Congratulations on this beautiful Portuguese Chrono. It's something quite different from your initial choices but you can't go wrong with a Portuguese!

Enjoy and wear it in good health.

    Thanks Clemens!

It definetly was totally not I had in mind first for my first IWC.

When I tried it on I couldnt resist its simplicity! For me it was horology perfection! I am aware that it is not an in house movement but it didnt matter! The luscious silver/white dial, the gold numerals and the blue seconds hand that seemed to move effortlessly Wheeew! It is a thing of beauty!

    Rudi,

One additional comment that I'd like to share. Having the same 3714 variation that you do, I put a IWC Dark Blue croc strap on it and was amazed of how such a subtle change really brought to life those "blued" counter hands. Try it if you have the opportunity to see what you think. I know you will enjoy the results.

    Best,

    Andy

    Thanks Andy!

I shall take that in mind but I would imagine it would pair great with blue, brown or black leather straps.

Would you normally use aftermarket straps or has it have to be an IWC one?

Personally I prefer to stay OEM whenever possible just because the IWC design team chose certain hues to compliment the overall look. However, nothing wrong with after market custom made. IWC contracts for it's strap requirements from various sources so you could technically say they are "after market". So for now if you want a Santoni in a 20,21mm for example, no go from IWC, but there are some excellent strap makers who can replicate the Santoni very nicely.

Regarding the 3714, you are correct. The beauty with this variation is it's ability to show perfectly with IWC's OEM croc options. In fact, next time you get to a AD/Boutique, have them show you the "Workbook" and the many shades available specifically for the 3714. There are lots to choose from other than the three basics you normally see.

Have fun being creative with this one.

    No worries Andy! Sure do!:)

Better yet maybe have another iwc watch
With a brown strap? Spitfire 3787 inhouse movement
Ardoise dial or the big pilot???

    Wishful thinking! Hahaha

Maybe others have also commented this but the 3777 looks WAAAY larger on the wrist than the 3717 despite the minimal difference in diameters. I've tried both and on my 6.75" wrist the 3717 looks fine but border-line, the 3777 not wearable. So I've stayed with my 3706 (39 mm) with classic dial - if you don't mind also worth considering!
The only thing that speaks for the 3777 is the micro-adjust clasp.
    Best,
    Robert
