Just needed some help on wether I Should go for the 3717 or the latest 3777. Tried both of them, both feels right to me. Is it justifiable paying a over 1000$ for the same movement between old and the new??? Heart tells me to buy 3717 but my mind tells me to get 3777 Help!!! As I am going insane thinking about this! Well not really but any sound advice would definitely help! Thanks :)

i went through some of the same thoughts. I ended up with the 3777. The main reason for me is that my eyes are quite as good as they used to be. Not quite needing glasses except for reading. THe larger subdials are the reason i went with the 3777. I tried them both (although not at the same time). In the end, if it was not for the reason above-- I probably would have gone with the 3717 (which was new) and about 800 dollars less.

IMHO, I would choose the 3717 as it is less busy on the dial, no number on the minute mark, resulting a pleasant view. Moreover, it is no longer in production.

For your consideration. Please excuse brevity. I am using my ipad and am in a hurry.

For me, it would have to be the 3777 -- I love the triple date window. Since your head and heart are divided, perhaps waiting a couple of days will help sort things out.

if budget is a concern, do consider the older 39mm ref 3706 as well.

if the choice is between a 3717 and 3777, and it is my first pilot, for me it would be the 3717 whose look and design is more representative of pilot chronograph watches for so long.

3717...plain and simple. Really! Dial has less clutter. Sub-dials may be larger on the 3777 but the sub-dial most viewed ( seconds ) is covered with IWC Branding. 3717's cleaner dial layout provides for a quick "easy" read. "No Confusion" single line day/date IMO way to go. 42mm perfect size.

If you have the opportunity to pick up a NIB 3717, I would jump on it before it's gone. The 3777 will be around for probably 5-6 years b/4 the next Pilot refresh.

    IMHO,

    Andy

Both are great but I slightly prefer the 3717. Good luck with your choice!

    Kind regards,

I have a pretty big wrist so the 3777 works better for me. It really depends on your taste. I like the thinner bezel on the 3777 too.

I think the thinner bezel on the 3777 makes the watch look a bit nicer. If you do a side by side-- the 3777 looks larger than i think it really is based on the differences in the bezel. So the actual size difference on the wrist is not as great as one might expect based on the photos.

Thanks everyone! I feel I know what model I am going to buy!
Yup the watches ate both BNIB and obviously my budget would only
Allow me to pick one :) this is my first IWC having owned a tag,
Longines and I feel this is the next progression for me!

I will post in the next few days what I eventually purchased!
Thanks for all your inputs! Have a good one from here down under!

Hi Rudi, have both on your wrist, take a picture with each piece. Sleep over it and you will know which to pick.

Looking forward to your choice and do post your pic. Cheers!

Will certainly do that Fleek! :)

Cheers! Are pilots usually the "gateway" watch for IWC?
I've read several forums and most people after owning
the Pilots Chrono would end up getting an IWC Portuguese
or the BP!!! That would be an awesome thought! hahaha

As for me, it is an IWC iconic piece, especially the BP.

    This was my first, 5009

    Thanks Waimar!

The thin bezel of the 3777 looks quite amazing! Yet the pull of the classic 3717, with its uncluttered design, and all other obvious things you find great in it sings exactly the same!!!!!

This will be a close decision! Post what I bought very soon!!!!!
