I recently received this watch and I don't know a lot about it. I love it and
the dial is beautiful and looks clean and crisp for it's age. Some damage
along the edge but mostly beautiful. Can anyone tell based on these pictures
if the dial is original? I don't really have any reason to suspect a redial or
repaint, but I can't find another example with this exact italic type for the
"Schaffhausen" text on a similar watch online.

While I'm here, if you notice anything else about the case or movement that
would make you think it is not all original parts (aside from strap) I'd love
to hear. It appears that the serial number of 1,56x,xxx place it as 1960-61
based on this site: www.elitetimepieces.com/iwcref.html. Does that
match the rest of the watch?

Thank you in advance. I love the watch and look forward to learning more as I
am starting to collect vintage watches as a hobby!

Congratulations Bill, what a gorgeous watch!

The movement is a Caliber 8531, produced in 1961. Judging from it's serial
number, the case is most probably from 1962, so, it matches the movement.

To me the dial as well as the hands and crown look original.

    I agree with Philipp.

    Everything looks original.

The dial is a so called piepan type.

Turler is an important Swiss dealer. The most important dealers ( Turler,
Beyer) asked IWC to print their name on the dial.

The automatc winding mechanim- one of the best ever- was developed by
Pellaton, technical director appointed in 1944 and creator of many famous IWC
    calibres for decades.

    Best regards,

Thank you very much Philipp and Adrian. I appreciate you taking the time to
    reply and
your valued opinions! I am happy that it seems to be the real deal because I
love the watch. The pie pan dial really sold me - the depth adds a lot of
character and makes it a little more interesting to me.

On the lookout for the next...

    Thanks again,

    Bill
