I was excited to watch the movement adjust for the leap year. When it did, I tried winding it back to see it again. I have since realized that this is a bad idea and need to find the instruction manual online. It looks like IWC no longer provides the documentation on the website. Does anyone here have a PDF?

    Hi Jwilensky,

    Basically the instruction manual - in particularly the leaflet in red you see below - warns you ((I think that what is says - its been a while since I read it)

    a) not to do that, meaning move the time back across midnight;

    b) that time keeping on the perpetual calendar only moves forward, and never backwards (though based on earlier discussions I believe the exception is that you can move time back with restriction: which is never to move time back when you are already within, or if it will cause you to be within, the date-change time period of 8 pm to 2 am)

    Can u share what the issue with your 5022 is ? In any case, if it is not functioning properly, I think the best response is to send it to the IWC service center to get it set correctly.

    The IWC perpetual calendar controlled by a single crown, with no "quick set" for the date, or "quick adjust" by another name, must be handled very carefully, given its very ingenious and fine engineering.

    Moving a PPC backwards past midnight is likely to damage the gear works. Of course you can move the hands forward beyond midnight, but be careful not to go too far as you cannot go backwards to adjust the watch. You have to stop the watch to let the day / date catch up

    Going backwards is a forbidden act for most day / date watches as the gears advancing the display are engaged. The PPC is even more sensitive as it is a very complicated movement controlling many functions (day, date, month, year, monphase). It can only be properly fixed by an authorized IWC service center trained to work on the PPC.

    Keep an eye on the date and month change and if you have problems send it in for a service.

    I've uploaded IWC pdf file for the Ref 5022.

    Cheers from the cellar
