Photo technique using a P &S and jewelers loupe>>>

I tried an experiment using my Point and Shoot camera (instead of a big DSLR) to get a close up shot. I used a cheap jewelers loupe in front of the lens. The first attempt delivered a fairly nice dial close up.

You get a bit of the looking through binocular feel, but with some more attempts and cropping I may have a way to do some close up shots just using these simple things. The macro setting cannot get this close, btw.

Nice results Bill!

I used that technique at the last Dutch Forum meeting too. I have even done it with a hand-held loupe a few years ago but hat was very difficult as you can see in the picture.

Frankly, it has less a "binocular feel" than I would have thought. I look forward to further experimentation with other dials!

I've used both 4x and 10x loupes

The first image is the crown wheel in a Stauffer/Nicolet pocket watch at 4X and the second image a jumping spider using a 10x. The spider is actually 6mm long!
