I hope someone can help me....I received a gift of an iwc limited edition watch - in gold, one of only 1000 made - it was signed by the president or founder of the company on the face, the number 596/1000 was etched on the side of the casing, and it had an oversized 'ribbed' round knob to hand wind it. The numerals were not roman, but actual numbers and the hands had a small round circle at the end of each of them - and it had a second hand round circle on the face. It was stolen last night in Paris and I am sick without it... can you tell me where i might find a replacement? Can you tell me the name of it, or how to look for another? Please help. Thank you. If someone can email me at kath88@mac.com - I would be very grateful. Also, if anyone has a picture of this watch - that would be helpful as well.

Sounds like the FA Jones (more)

Search the archives for pictures of this model. Search under Jones LE and variations.

Here is an excerpt from a post by our Moderator on the FA Jones when introduced:

More information of the Jones Portugieser

    Greetings,

it's 4 a.m. here, so I'll brief and post more later today.

The Jones Portuguese wristwatch will be available in steel, gold or platinum, and will have a very special movement. Like the Jubilee Portugieser from 1993, it has a variant of IWC’s famous in-house pocket watch movement, the Calibre 98. Only this time the movement has been totally reworked and is called Calibre 98290.

In homage to F.A. Jones, the founder of IWC, the movement is derived from the original Jones Calibre design from 1868-1876. It now has a three-quarters plate, special 19th-century style decoration and a regulator with the distinctive Jones’ “finger” or “arrow”.

The means that an important in-house IWC movement, the Calibre 98xx, is back in major production but in a totally new design. 4,500 will be produced: 3000 in steel, 1000 in rose gold and 500 in platinum. The dials are "simii-enamel": they look like porcelin but actually are far less fragile.

4,500 may seem like a lot for a "special edition", but keep in mind that the 2,000 of the Jubilee Portugiesers sold out almost overnight, and demand has grown considerably since 1993. Also, I was told that production will be over two years.

The watch is 43mm wide. In my opinion, it's a great “fantasy” watch –a perfect blend of concept of the Jones calibre with the Jubilee Portugieser, together with the time-honored IWC Calibre 98.

    Regards,
    Michael
P.S. Now you know why I posted about the Jones pocket watch (twice) and the Calibre 9828 Portuguese. And why I had to deftly sidestep Franco's idea that IWC at some time should make a Jones wristwatch.

Pictures have been sent. As far as

buying another, though discontinued it is a fairly recent watch and you might find some still at Authorized Dealers. There is a global list of dealers on this site.

I have seen two pieces advertised for sale by Asian dealers on two other well known watch sites with active sales boards. You might also check them.
