    Dear Listmates:

My first IWC - a port. perpetual calender - arrives tomorrow.

I am very excited, but a little nervous. I read the online operating manual and it did not have details about setting the moon phase!

This watch is being shipped to me, so I wont have an AD to help me in person.

Any tips? And how do I find the current "count down" to the full moon?

Sorry if this has been asked already

    Impressive first IWC...

and about your question: IWC's perpetual calendar is already fully programmed. If you advance the date according to the instructions to the current year/month/day the moonphase is automatically adjusted.

Enjoy your watch, it's certainly worth it!

A true miracle of a watch

Congratulations, this one you will never regret. It has about everything, like great looks and fantastic technology. For me this was the watch of the decennium, and I have one myself too. Jokingly I say that it is very boring, because once set, you never have to do anything about it, except keeping it running, set the time from "summertime" to "wintertime" and back, that is twice a year, and to set the time because it will probably run a few seconds fast per day, which is perfectly normal. The setting of summertime and certainly wintertime you have to do the next morning, as 3 o-clock (sorry, forum software problem) in the morning still is in the danger zone, where setting backwards will damage the movement.

    Enjoy!

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing steel VC Portuguese

A true miracle of a watch

Thank you for the input - I assumed it was the case, but as you know...assumption has its risks!

I have spent a long time lurking and plotting my first IWC - I have been collecting rolex for some time, but finally "progressed" beyond the brand.

Another question - do you use a watch winder with your piece? I have a nice orbita winder which normally houses my yachmaster II and whatever other watch i am wearing that week.

Finally, any other trivia, tidbits or useful tips a new owner should know?

    Thanks again

    No watch winder

One of the nice features of this watch is that it has a power reserve of 7 days, that is very much indeed. And I think that the power reserve indicator is one of the most useful features for an automatic watch, because it takes away the annoyance of waking up in the morning to find out that the watch went to sleep.

I wear it about a day in the week, that used to be much more often, but when you have about six wearable watches you want to wear them all. So I wind the watch carefully when the power reserve indicator shows about 2 or 3 days reserve, and the power reserve gains about a day when I wear it. I have the watch six years by now, it never stopped.

What you are going to experience with this watch is that it will never bore you, and that it gives you an immense feeling of pride that you have one. Good luck with it!

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing steel VC Portuguese

    Great way to start!

Make sure to post some pictures when you receive the watch and take care not to adjust the date in the forbidden timezone.

    Kind regards,

    Congrats!! Moonphase is preprogramed w/date

The moon phase display is integrated with the date. You never need to worry about it for 572 years!! Just advance the crown and the day, date, month, Moonphase and year will all synchronize!!

Up in prize, yes, but Perpetual Calendar the best

That is, I agree with Nelson, this Portuguese Perpetual Calendar isn't to beat.

    Port. Perpetual Calender

Thank you for the kind welcome.

i will post the pictures as soon as my wife finishes taking them.

Lovely piece and I am really happy with it.

I had ordered an IWC black leather strap, thinking I could change the strap myself. Is this doable? I ask because there isnt an AD nearby

Thank you all again! good to be here
