I currently have the Portofino Automatic with a standard pin-buckle strap. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to get an adjustable clasp strap for this model?

I believe the older Portofino Automatic comes with a deployment clasp, so I assume you are referring to the 2011 Portofino Automatic ?

    pre-2011:

If memory serves me correctly the 2011 Portofino Automatic offers a deployment clasp, available at any dealer at additional cost, but I am not sure if stock is available yet.

yes it is the new 2011 edition. So there is a possibility then that it is available. That's enough for me to go visit the IWC boutique then, in the hope that they have one.

It doesn't matter whether the Portofino deployant buckle is available. IWC for years has made an 18mm wide deployant buckle (since the Mark XVI if I recall).

Any IWC 18mm deployant buckle will work. However, a word of caution --you may need a new strap as well as the buckle. The reason for that is that deployants generally use a differently-sized strap, which is shorter on one side. You can try the watch with the current strap first, to see if it works for you.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I had already assumed that I would need the whole thing replaced so I'm not too concerned about that.

Thanks Michael. I was wondering about that, having asked sales staff that same question if a deployment could be used, the answer was "accessories will come in later". I had thought it met a special deployment or a different sized deployment, but on balance I don't think so either - just a different sized strap and...i still need to learn to question sales staff more.

Ok the answer is that there is the option of a folding clasp which attaches to the existing strap (in place of the pin buckle). But it doesn't come cheap. Certainly not in Zurich anyway.

No Rano, my apologies - i confused things.

Michael is correct - the folding clasp is always available - just that folding clasps use differently sized straps compared to pin buckles.

One of the strap sides connecting to one end of the folding claspswould be much shorter than compared to if it were connected to a pin buckle.

I hope when u compare it with your portofino you can see the difference- its not entirely evident in the pics below, my apologies.

Also, as Michael has said, you can try the folding clasp with your current strap first:
