    Good morning to all,

i have recently bought a Portofino Chronograph, however almost after 1,5 month of daily usage i have noticed that power reserve goes down to a maximum of 8-9hours.

Just to give you my daily schedule:
I wear it in the morning around 9am and take it off from my hand around 6:30pm. Next morning when i am about to wear it again..i notice that it has stopped at 3am.

Is this normal? How long does it need to be fully charged?

    please for your advise

Welcome Leonidas, and congratulations on purchasing your Portofino. Did you buy it new or previously owned? if the latter, how old is the watch and when did it last have a full service? Such a movement should always first be hand wound approximately 30+ turns before relying on the automatic self wind mechanism.

Thank you for your reply David!

The timepiece i bought is new. However i am not sure that i understood what kind of movement/action shall i do for fully winding.

i will appreciate further analysis and/or any advise

According to your schedule for wearing the watch, it is only on your wrist for about 9 hours which is not that long to keep an automatic wound, it also depends on how active your arm is during that period. If you check your manual, it will tell you how many revolutions to hand wind to achieve full winding, I would expect it will say 30 turns. You do this by first carefully unscrewing the crown counter clockwise until it pops out by spring pressure to the first position. Then holding the crown between thumb and forefinger, turn the crown clockwise i.e. thumb moving up in the direction of 12 'o' clock. Depending on your technique between thumb and forefinger, each action may not fully turn the crown through 360 degrees, therefore try doing this 40 times as you cannot overwind the automatic movement because it has a slipping clutch mechanism. Then leave the watch on your dressing table etc., until it stops and this should take approximately 40 - 44 hours. If this is the case, there should be nothing wrong with the watch, you just need to initially hand wind as described and wear as per you normal schedule.

One possible reason could be office work without moving for more than 9 hours of power reserve.
    1. Try winding manually as David suggested to check if the capability of keeping the power reserve is there. If yes the try:
    2. Wear it for longer or when more active, e. g. weekends to check if the automatic winding mechanism works correct.

Also, read your manual carefully so that you know not to use the date quick set during the prohibited hours of 10.00 pm & 2 am.

    Good morning guys,

Last Friday, when i went back home i read carefully portofino's manual where the instructions were pretty much the same as yours.

A couple of differences, as the manual winding takes place on position "0" of the crown.

I am pleased to say that after following the instructions..i left my watch untouched. It eventually stopped working after 55h!!!!

so i guess that semi-winding was the reasoning of low power reserve.

once again thank you for your support!

Leonidas, that's good news. So the power reserve and manual winding mechanism seems ok. Now it's time to test automatic winging mechanism. Wear the watch fully hand wound and then probably the whole weekend with activity. Then leave it untouched again and check if it's still 55 hours.

Leonidas, welcome to the forum. Now that you know the power of the forum please continue to contribute and post pictures of your Portofino.
    Enjoy your new IWC.
