    Hello,
I am about to get a Portofino hand-wound eight days with stainless steel case and brown Santoni strap.
I know that it is originally sold with the "classical" clasp, I mean the one without the deployante. I am a bit concerned about ruining it, as I know leather could be very delicate and I would like to have some information about the feasibility of a replacement of the ardiglione clasp with the deployante one.
If it is actually possible to replace the original clasp, would that be a good solution? What are the pros and cons?

    Thank you in advance,

    Greetings from Italy.

    Hi,
The deployment clasp IWA13953 combined with the Santoni strap IWA54851 are designed for the Portofino 8 day. They look good, are comfortable and wear well on this watch.

    Thanks for the reply, Leo!
I wasn't able to find any information on the IWA54851 on the internet, is there an official brochure?

You will find the deployant clasp and strap not cheap, be warned, but if £$¥ are not an issue just wear as is until you are ready to buy. It will be a nice improvement as to how it sits on the wrist. Do make sure that you get the standard the XS or XL sized strap suitable for your wrist. So if you are wearing the current strap on the first or last two or three holes then get then get the XS or XL as appropriate.

The strap for pin buckle has different lengths per side than straps for deployant strap. You have a watch with the beautiful Santoni straps which are available for pin or deployant straps. Some of us upgrade our straps to Santoni and we walk around with big smiles and depleted wallets! Just to make you think twice I think you need to know that to do the job and keep the strap to a Santoni, I do not see any change out of €700 for buckle and strap. But it will sit better on the wrist after you have done this, and generally we would consider it as an upgrade.

By the way Leo Sweeneypod is the service manager in London and the reference numbers are per official records and reference numbers for the Standard length strap Santoni for deployant. But there are two shades of brown just to add to the confusion. One is called brown and the other is called light brown.

Thanks again for the quick reply!
I think that it is worth the money, as we are talking about a quite expensive watch itself.
I'll talk to my IWC center in my city and try the deplyante.

Perhaps the AD could order the Portofino from Schaffhausen with the deployant strap version instead of the pin buckle version to save cost in not paying for two Santoni straps?

I don't know David, but talking to the IWC guy it seemed like that wasn't an option. I will update this thread as soon as I have further information!
