I can't find the Portugieser 5102 models anymore on Portugieser collection presentation on this site. Is it just a mistake, or is the Hand-wound Eight Days model really discontinued?

I just got my new catalogue, and looked it up. Indeed, the Portuguese 8 Days Handwound has been discontinued, alas. A very classy watch, one that was in the back of my mind a few times. I further noticed that the Portuguese Yacht Club watches have been discontinued too, a pity, same story here. IWC moves on, as do I.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

    Thanks for Your response.

In my opinion, the three hands hand-wound Portugieser is one of the signature watches for IWC. Discontinuing it is like discontinuing of Submariner would be for Rolex, or discontinuing of Speedmaster Professional would be for Omega.

I hope IWC will introduce a new version of this iconic watch as soon as possible.

Well, there is one difference between the IWC watches mentioned, and the Rolex and Omega watches you mention: the former quite probably didn't sell quite well, whether we like them or not, the latter are hot sellers, within proportion to be compared with the Portuguese Chrono: still going strong after so many years. I don't care how much a watch sells, I just want to like it. And I cannot keep on buying the watches I like, as I want to wear them too, and several beauties are sitting in the box for months right now. So far for my contribution to the success of the watches built by IWC.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Website still shows the yacht club in the collection but indeed the 8-day has disappeared

Yes and I do know that the paper catalogue no longer is intended to be 'complete' (it simply gets too thick) and that the website reflects the complete collection, but maybe our moderator can shed some light on this?!

    Kind regards,

    Bob

The Portugieser Hand-Wound Eight Days (IW5102) is discontinued.
There is still a Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days in the collection.

An IW510203 is one of my grail watches as well and after the first shock regarding the discontinue of this model, I figured it would be not that bad at all.

I will pick one up, one day, for the right price on the secondary market with a story attached to it. As the watch ran from 2013-2016, there will be plenty of models that might be sold by their current owners, as a hand-wound 42-43mm manufacture is not your typical daily beater.

I agree that it is one of the most beautiful watches IWC ever made and I am glad that I bought one before its discontinuation.
I recently mounted a brown Santoi strap instead of the original black alligator. This makes the watch even more versatile and I just love its look:

5102 is a beautiful Portuguese and I'm sad to see that it is gone.

yes, it was a beautiful watch.

I don't mind the date at all.

my only gripe with the watch is... (it is totally a personal preference) that it comes only with silver indices. I came close to buying it a couple of times. Had it come with gold or blue indices, I might have fallen for it.

That's interesting! The silver indices are actually one of my most favourite features of this watch. Personally I don't like gold indices on a steel watch and the blue ones are too dominant. I just love the subdued look of the silver indices on the white dial.

By the way: There is a version with blue indices: The limitied edition for the BFI London 2015, Reference 510207.
