I was visiting the London boutique on Saturday to have a second look at the white gold Portugieser Perpetual Calendar (IW503301) and noticed that what I originally thought was the same strap as on my Portugieser Auto (IW500705) is in fact a nicer, more textured Santoni version (with the orange lining).

I asked about cost; the standard one is £250 the Santoni one is £320. I'm happy to spend the extra for what looks like a better strap and I assume lug width and deployment dimensions are all the same.

I was wondering if anyone had thought about, or actually gone ahead and fitted the Santoni alligator strap to a more standard Portugieser?

A Santoni strap will look good on any IWC. Go for it.

Let's not forget the other side.

You bet I have. I have a Santoni on my PPC and on my Portugieser. Lovely to look at and admire.

Thanks for the images guys :)

The brown/tan definitely looks good on the gold watches, or those with gold hands/indices. As mine has dark blue hands/indices, I was thinking of the black Santoni strap - it's a bit more padded I think than the standard one on my Portugieser auto but seeing your images of the tan coloured version shows me it'll be a good look :)

Does anyone know if Santoni still makes straps for the previous Portugieser ref.5001 ? At my AD I was offered to buy a strap that fits 5007 only which has the curved spring bars. I'm not sure how would that look as the gap between the case and strap would increase ? Thanks for advice.
