I just purchased a Portuguese Automatic ref 5001. A very nice timepiece.

I am noticing that the hour hand is about 3 to 5 minutes ahead of the minute hand - so if the watch shows 12 o'clock, the hour is already about a millimeter past 12.

Is that normal behavior? Margin of error?

    Thanks! -TP.

Hello and welcome to The Forum.

I find that to be a very strange and disturbing thing.

Did you buy your watch at an Authorized Dealer?

    Hi JeronimoCG

thanks for the warm welcome :)

Yes, I bought it at an official dealership - at the just opened flagship store on Bahnhofstrasse in Zürich, Switzerland. A very nice location, indeed!

The hour hand definitely should align with the minute hand. Bring the watch back to the AD. If it was a recent purchase, the fix should be under warranty.

    Best of luck!

Welcome to the forum you have selected a great watch. May I suggest that you align the hour needle to an hour marker, the minute and seconds needle to 12 o'clock position, synchronise the watch with internet time ( I use US naval observatory master clock ). You should observe the performance of your watch for the next few days. In case you are still not satisfied you always have the option of going back to the AD.

I would take it there as soon as possible and I'm sure they'll figure out what is wrong.

Then let us know how did it go... Meanwhile stick around, the Forum is a great place to be!

    Cheers!

Oh! And congratulations on your Portuguese, it's a fantastic watch and I'm sure it will give you a lot of pleasure for a long time to come once this issue is sorted.

No reason to panic --this is an easy fix, but shouldn't happen.

Welcome to the forum and I hope you get this small technical deficit fixed swiftly. Perhaps you are the first forum member to post a new watch bought from the latest boutique opened. Seems to be one boutique opening each week ;-)

Hi TP and welcome to the forum.

I had the same problem with a new Portofino 8 day hand wound ref 5101. The minute hand was 3-4 minutes behind the hour hand.
I asked the same question on this forum as to whether this was acceptable and was given very good advice

This resulted in a painful separation from my new 'friend' as it had to be sent to Hong Kong to be fixed but eventually came back and is now within 1 minute which I am told is within acceptable tolerances.

Well worth getting fixed or it will bother you as it did me

    Regards

    Peter

Hi TP, welcome to the Forum and congrats on the 5001!!!!! Which version did you get?

I must agree with the others and say that is not normal behavior. I am sure the new Boutique will take good care of you and your new watch!

Good luck & please keep us posted with developments.
