Portuguese Chronograph 3714 vibration?

I have a Portuguese Chronograph 3714, which I have owned for nearly two years and is just coming to the end of its warranty period.

Since day one, I have intermittently been able to feel a vibration from the watch, as if there is an occasional 'overun' of the self winding movement.

The vibration itself is very strong, lasts for 5 - 10 seconds and can be felt by anyone who places a hand on the watch whilst its happening.

I have taken it back to my AD a couple of times and asked them to check it out (I asked their watch technician to wear it for a few days) and they have told me its perfectly normal, but I have never had this with any other self winding watch (currently have a Rolex GMT Master 11 and a Jaeger La Coultre) and friends who have much bigger collections than me (albeit not IWC) have said that they dont believe this is correct.

Just getting a little nervous now that I am heading out of warranty as I have had a few other issues with it.

Can anyone help - is this normal?????

To set your mind at ease, I would go to Your AD and try another 3714 and feel what the rotor is like. You might find it is similar to what your watch feels like.

Of my IWCs, some I cannot feel anything, but my 3717 gets a distinct wobble as the rotor spins and torques the watch around. This is in fact a characteristic of this watch and is well known.

I think it is normal rotor action, but not being able to experience what you are feeling, it's hard to say.

A friend of mine has a 3714 and I will give it a spin when I see him next.

Why not send it in just before the warranty expires? I've seen that done in other instances, and it's a nice precaution.

I have recently bump into my friend wearing a AT 3719 and it also has the effect of the spinning rotor when he shakes the watch. It lasted for a few seconds and in fact he loves it. The watch is still running fine but I was amaze by it.

But I would send it in for a check to confirm the issue.

Mark, your description of the wobble when the rotor spins is exactly what it feels like and so that and the comments from the other contributors has helped to put my mind at rest.

On your suggestions, I will probably get my AD (who are extremely helpful) to check it out one last time though.
