I'm looking to add a gold IWC to my collection and am trying to decide between

    Portofino Jubilee (gold vintage edition)
    Portuguese Regulateur (rose gold)

    Any thoughts?

    Portuguese vs Portofino

Well, this is a very difficult question. I assume you like both watches a lot, otherwise you wouldn't ask.

There is a slight difference in basic characteristics, in my opinion. Both being luxury watches the Portofino is a bit more tenderly shaped than the Portuguese, which looks just a bit more robust: the Portofino is a bit rounder, and the lugs are a bit more delicate. It is just a question of taste, it's only you who can decide here.

Then there is the question what you prefer more: the moon, which is very beautiful on the gold Portofino, or that very special way to show the hours of the régulateur. Your life will not depend on either, so here again it is just what you like more.

I sometimes felt a bit in your position about other watches, and the odd decision was that I wouldn't buy either of them. For me it must be BINGO! without a trace of a doubt. If you really want to know which one I would buy? The red gold Vintage Portuguesenot on your list

Did you see both watches head to head in the shop, did you hold them both in your hands? If not, do just that, and I am sure you will know which one is the one for you.

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing Saint Exupéry Chrono

I vote for the Portofino Vintage Collection RG

It is a very special watch, and I think the warmth of the rose gold adds to the moonphase. Keep in mind that one "deficit" of the watch is that it is manually wound, and setting a moonphase to the right phase is a little more work unless you wear the watch all the time.

I really think the regulateur is nice --but to me the complication is a fun one, as a different way of telling time. To me it doesn't quite have the same elegance as a rose gold watch, and I would like it in steel (or platinum or white gold, but those are different stories).I also think a Regulateur "dresses up" a steel watch better than almost anything on the market.

I don't think you can go wrong with either, but to me the Portofino is more classic and more special at the same time, at least in RG.

    Regards,
    Michael

Both are great, a hard choice but...

I would like better the Portuguese Regulateur because I love all portugueses in an unrational maner. Portofino is also a great one, and definitely beautiful, but you need a big wrist to hold this case diameter and mine is not that big!
